I hate ironing. In the last 10 years, I think I’ve ironed less than five times and as a result of that, have gradually stopped buying clothes that need it. But I admit when it comes to white tees, they do look so much better when they’re ironed and crisp. So you can imagine my joy when I stumbled across Australian brand Paire making tees that are, music to my ears, wrinkle-resistant. If you haven’t heard of Paire, it’s by two founders with a background in fabric technology and sustainability and was founded on the principle of creating stuff that feels good for the planet, but also feels good to wear all week.
The tees are made with 30% merino wool and 70% eucalyptus tree fibre. Together, the materials don’t allow for wrinkles. They also have moisture-wicking properties that help to regulate body temperature. In other words, work to fight off another one of my white-tee woes: yellow sweat stains. Merino wool’s also anti-bacterial and contains anti-odour properties, so you can wear the tee multiple times without having to wash it.
I asked the brand if I could try the tee — an option in white (or “snow”, as they call it) and another in black. It also comes in shadow (a shade of grey), sky, marmalade, pistachio, stormy blue and olive and sizes range from XXS to XL. Though as far as basic tees go, it is on the pricier end at $79 a pop, shipping’s free, and if you decide you’re not keen on it, you can return it within 100 days, no questions asked.
So, does the tee IRL live up to its promises? I say yes. The tees are both super-soft. They do show dents in the fabric after some wear, but if you shake them out they disappear.
Since getting the two tees, I’ve been wearing them at least three times a week — both during the week and on the weekends for friend catch-ups and to do my life admin. As I’m typing this, I’m currently wearing the white tee under a thick black vest. Yesterday, I wore it under an open, black button-down. Will I sleep in the tee tonight? Look, I’ll be honest — probably. The outfit options are endless, and if it means my iron doesn’t need to come up, I’m sold. Can all my clothes have this magic technology, please?!
