The “Barbie” Selfie Generator Makes Life in Plastic Look Fantastic – Here’s How to Use It
Ken and Barbie aren’t the only ones having fun in Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie. On April 4, Warner Bros. shared the official trailer for the film and posters featuring the star-studded cast – including Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, Nicola Coughlan, and Kate McKinnon. Following the classic Barbie adage that with imagination, life is your creation, fans are also getting a chance to play and create their own doll-inspired personas with a “Barbie” selfie generator.
On the custom website, fans of the multihyphenate figurine can upload photos to create their own “Barbie” posters, complete with glittery backgrounds and a quote that gives some insight into their magenta-infused dream lives. In promotional photos for the film, some stars have already been labeled with their “Barbie” identities. “This Barbie is a mermaid,” Dua Lipa’s poster reads. Meanwhile, Gosling’s poster clarifies, “He’s Ken,” while Simu Liu‘s adds, “He’s another Ken.” Some are even more descriptive, like McKinnon’s, which reads, “This Barbie is always in the splits.”
A few fans have already gotten a head start and inserted themselves into the Barbieverse. “Friends fear she’s going to rinse this photo generator to death,” one Twitter user joked. Another person tweeted, “having too much fun with the barbie photo generator.” If you’re looking to try the selfie tool yourself, we highly recommend keeping angles and lighting in mind; after all, Barbie is a model/photographer/actor/pop star, among other things.

"Barbie" Selfie Generator Step 1: Upload Your Photo
To begin, the generator gives you the option of uploading an existing selfie or snapping one on the spot with your phone or computer. If you’re taking a photo in the moment, make sure it’s centered, as there is no option to adjust the crop once you’ve uploaded your picture.
"Barbie" Selfie Generator Step 2: Confirm Your Photo Selection
Once you’ve uploaded your photo, make sure you’re happy with the angles and lighting before clicking “Continue.”
"Barbie" Selfie Generator Step 3: Reposition Your Selfie
The generator then takes you to an edit screen where you can use arrow keys to reposition your selfie, moving it up, down, left, or right. You can also turn your selfie a full 360 degrees if you’re looking for a unique approach to your Barbie dream life.
"Barbie" Selfie Generator Step 4: Customize Your Caption
Next, click on the edit pencil in the center of the screen. This tool allows you to decide whether you want to be a Barbie or a Ken, changing the words on the screen accordingly. It also gives you the option to type in your own Barbie motto or choose one of the pregenerated options. These include “This Barbie is a valedictorian,” “This Barbie is leader of the pack,” “This Barbie is a listener,” “This Barbie is a work in progress,” “This Barbie is an inspiration,” and more.
"Barbie" Selfie Generator Step 5: Choose Your Background Color
Finally, the paint palette tool allows you to select the color of your background – glitter not optional.
