Bindi Irwin has shared an update about her health following her shock endometriosis diagnosis. After undergoing surgery for her condition, the 24-year-old said she was “healing”. She couldn’t wait to focus all her energy on her “family and the conservation work”.

“I’m recovering from endometriosis surgery and I’m doing well. It’s been a challenging time, physically and emotionally, but I’m so grateful for everyone’s support and kindness,” Irwin wrote. She shared a photo of herself in a hospital bed with a large bouquet of roses.

“I’m also grateful to have the support of my beautiful family, and a husband who loves and supports me every step of the way.”

She went on to thank her followers for their messages of support and encouragement.

“I’ve been reading all your kind words and they’ve really lifted my spirits. I hope that by sharing my story, I can help raise awareness about this condition. And encourage other women to speak out and seek help if they’re experiencing similar symptoms.”

Irwin recently opened up about her 10-year struggle with endometriosis in a heartfelt Instagram post.

She wrote that she had battled with insurmountable fatigue, pain, and nausea for a decade throughout which she tried to remain positive while hiding her symptoms.

Marking International Women’s Day, the conservationist said she felt a “responsibility” to share her journey, aware of the “millions of other women struggling with a similar story.”

Directly after her endometriosis surgery, she wrote in a post: “A doctor told me it was simply something you deal with as a woman, and I gave up entirely, trying to function through the pain. I didn’t find answers until a friend helped set me on a path of regaining my life. I decided to undergo surgery for endometriosis. Going in for surgery was scary, but I knew I couldn’t live like I was.”

The surgery revealed that Bindi had 37 lesions, some very deep and difficult to remove, and a “chocolate cyst”. She expressed her gratitude towards her family and friends who have been on this journey with her for over a decade and thanked the doctors and nurses who believed her pain.

She said, “Validation for years of pain is indescribable. I’m on the road to recovery, and the gratitude I feel is overwhelming. I’m aware of millions of women struggling with a similar story. There’s stigma around this awful disease. I’m sharing my story for anyone who reads this and is quietly dealing with pain and no answers. Let this be your validation that your pain is real, and you deserve help.”

What Is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a painful disorder in which the tissue that usually lines the inside of the uterus grows outside of it, causing inflammation, pain, and other symptoms, as described by the World Health Organization. It affects about one in ten women of reproductive age and can be hard to diagnose as its symptoms can often be mistaken for other illnesses.

At present, there is no known cure for endometriosis and treatment is usually aimed at controlling symptoms.

Bindi’s bravery in sharing her story highlights the need for more awareness around endometriosis and the importance of advocating for oneself when seeking medical help. Her words provide comfort and support to the millions of women who struggle with this painful condition.

In her post, Bindi also reminded people to be mindful of the questions they ask about having children. She said, “Please be gentle and pause before asking me (or any woman) when we’ll be having more children. After all that my body has gone through, I feel tremendously grateful that we have our gorgeous daughter. She feels like our family’s miracle.”

Bindi’s story is a reminder that it’s okay to share one’s struggles, and it’s essential to seek help when needed. Her courage in opening up about her experience with endometriosis will inspire many women to speak up and advocate for themselves.
