Jamie Lee Curtis Celebrated Her SAG Win by Kissing Michelle Yeoh on the Lips
At the 2023 SAG Awards, Jamie Lee Curtis celebrated her first ever SAG Award win, Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Everything Everywhere All At Once”.
Upon hearing her name called out, Curtis jumped up and kissed her co-star Michelle Yeoh on the lips.
The kiss was a long and firm and not only celebrated women-supporting-women, but continues Curtis’ support of her fellow cast members in the most amazing way.
“Where is Michelle Yeoh?” she called out, in the middle of her SAG acceptance speech.
“I say Michelle, you say Yeoh!” she instructed the audience.
“Michelle!” she shouted.
“Yeoh!” the audience shouted back.
Curtis went on to explain that the reason she accepted the role, as Deirdre Beaubeirdra in “Everything Everywhere All At Once” was because she’d be acting opposite Yeoh.
“They (directors Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) told me that it stars Michelle Yeoh and I said yes. I get to be opposite her? I’m in.”
“Michelle Yeoh, I love you, I love you, I love you.”
But this isn’t the first time we’ve seen support and love between the two “Everything Everywhere All At Once” co-stars.
Earlier this year at the Golden Globes, when Michelle Yeoh won the award for best actress in a musical/comedy for “Everything Everywhere All At Once”, the camera captured Jamie Lee Curtis’s reaction.
While Yeoh covered her face in her hands with modest disbelief, Curtis, standing to the side, pumped both fists into the air and screamed in joy, support, love and celebration.
This is what we need. Role models, women, co-stars celebrating each other in a raw and beautiful way, from young emerging stars to people that have been in the industry for decades.
“Everything Everywhere All At Once”, has been making history this awards season, bringing actors like Ke Huy Quan and Michelle Yeoh not only back into the limelight, but onto the awards stage.
And with Curtis herself, nominated for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, alongside co-stars Stephanie Hsu, who is nominated for the very same award, Yeoh, who is nominated for Best Lead Actress and Quan, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actor — not to mention the total of 11 Oscar nominations for the 2022 comedy-drama film.
“I did this movie because of Michelle Yeoh…. And what Michelle and I discovered, as you said in those moments that could have been absurd, was that beautiful deep loneliness that occurs with people,” Curtis said in an interview with Vanity Fair.
“The work with her, which we discovered really in an improvisation on that day, was shot in about an hour. It was this beautiful moment that I will never forget…. Where we went emotionally together, it was unexpected, and also just such a beautiful testament to her depth as an actress.
“What a beautiful scene partner she was. She’s just an extraordinary woman. And, yeah, it’s crazy. It’s just, it’s all crazy. It’s gorgeous.”
Needless to say, the love amongst the entire ensemble is clear.
With Michelle Yeoh taking home the 2023 SAG Award for Female Actor in a Leading role — complete with a standing ovation from Curtis — and the film itself taking home the 2023 SAG Award for Cast in a Motion Picture, we expect the Oscar buzz around the film to pick up even more steam.
And rightfully so.
