Is Westman Atelier’s $88 Mascara Worth the Hype?
Spending $88 on a mascara is most definitely what we would consider a splurge. In fact, it might seem wild to spend that sort of money on such a product, when many drugstore mascaras do a fine job of lengthening lashes and providing definition.
So what sets Westman Atelier’s Eye Love You Mascara apart from the others? If you’re unfamiliar with the brand, Westman Atelier (which you can find stocked at MECCA in Australia), it’s the brainchild of makeup artist Gucci Westman. Westman’s makeup range is clean and conscious and includes plant-based formulas that work alongside advanced actives to perfect the no-makeup makeup look.
The Eye Love You Mascara is no different and is made from 96% natural origins and doesn’t contain silicones, parabens, PEG’s, phthalates or synthetic fragrance. What it does contain is sunflower seed, carnauba and beeswax, which help provide structure and volume, while chicory root offers a thickening effect. The preservative in the mascara is made from a derivative of coconut oil.
The mascara promises to provide volume without crumbling or flaking, which, for a clean formula, sounds almost impossible. In fact, many clean mascaras are notorious for giving you panda eyes by the end of the day as the formulas don’t offer great hold.
Considering Westman Atelier’s mascara is a clean formula, it provides a surprising about of hold and does a great job of lengthening and sepearating lashes. The formula is buildable, so you can choose how bold you want your lashes to look while also being highly pigmented, so you really don’t need a lot of product.
Hands down this is the best clean mascara I’ve tried and after weeks of wear, it hasn’t flaked or crumpled and I don’t end up with spidery looking lashes in the process of applying it. While expensive, the mascara was impressive from the first use. I was actually shocked at how well it performed after just one wear.
Alongside the formula, the look of the Eye Love You Mascara is insanely luxe and is housed in sleek gold packaging. The weight and feel of the packaging is in line with the price tag as well — there’s nothing cheap feeling about it. While $88 is undoubtedly (very) expensive for a mascara, if you’re after a high-performance clean mascara (and can afford the price tag), this is most definitely one to try.
