Vitamin C Lovers Rejoice: Mecca Has Added a Brightening Serum to Its Signature Line

Vitamin C is a serious game-changer in the world of skincare. This potent antioxidant helps to visibly reduce signs of ageing while also stimulating collagen production, brightening your complexion and lessening the look of dark spots.

There are a number of vitamin C serums on the market that target all of these issues, but we couldn’t go past a new launch from Mecca Cosmetica. Adding to its signature line (which includes one of our favourite SPF products of all time), Mecca Cosmetica’s Skin Brightening Vitamin C Serum ($55) is the latest antioxidant-rich serum to hit shelves.

Not all vitamin C serums are created equal, so it’s important that your product has 10 to 20 percent L-ascorbic acid (which is basically pure vitamin C). Studies have shown serums without this ingredient aren’t as readily absorbed by the skin.

Mecca Cosmetica’s Vitamin C Serum is formulated with 15% L-ascorbic acid, making it a great choice from the get-go. This percentage of pure vitamin C means this serum protects against free radical damage, while also evening out skin tone.

The addition of ferulic acid in the serum targets fine lines, dark spots and premature ageing, while vitamin E locks in moisture and nourishes skin. In fact, the blend of ferulic acid and L-ascorbic acid makes the former more effective but also creates an extremely distinct scent when you open the bottle.

“This is not a formulation issue, it is the result of pairing a 15% pure vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) and ferulic acid,” reads the MECCA website. “When paired together this powerhouse combination works hard to protect skin against environmental damage and premature signs of ageing caused by free radical damage from UVA/UVB and pollution.”

For fans of vitamin C serums, this is one you’re going to want to get your hands on. Vitamin C is best applied in the morning, with Sydney facialist and skin therapist, Melissa Young, telling The Latch: “The best time to apply vitamin C to the skin is first thing in the morning as the L-ascorbic acid works to neutralise the free radical damage we face daily. I always tell my clients to think of C in conjunction with coffee.”

After applying your serum, make sure to follow it up with SPF50+ sunscreen to protect your skin as sun sensitivity can increase with the use of this product.
