Tennis Star Emma Raducanu Receives MBE in Sheer Lace Dress and Wide-Brimmed Hat
Emma Raducanu was officially awarded an MBE by King Charles on 29 Nov. for her services to tennis. The 20-year-old accepted the honour at an investiture ceremony in Windsor Castle, and said after the reception, “It’s been great to receive my honour today from his Majesty the King – I feel extremely grateful.”
The tennis star was awarded the accolade after winning the US Open in 2021 at just 18 years old, and becoming the first British woman to win a grand slam title since 1977. She was also crowned the 2021 Sports Personality of the Year, and got to play Serena Williams this summer in a historic match before Williams’ retirement. It’s certainly been a successful year for the British-Canadian, culminating in her MBE, which she labelled a “pretty amazing day” on her Instagram.
Raducanu chose a chic lace Dior ensemble for the occasion, which makes sense considering she was announced as an ambassador for the brand in Oct 2021. The dress itself was crafted from layers of black silk lace to create a voluminous skirt with an asymmetric hem. Short, frilled sleeves added a feminine touch to the top half while she added a black slip underneath to avoid the sheer fabric exposing too much skin. The 20-year-old added an elasticated waist belt with a gold buckle, ankle-strap block heels, and a wide-brimmed boater hat with black band, also all from Parisian fashion house, Dior.
She also opted for minimal makeup for the occasion, with no mascara in sight, allowing her dewy skin and natural beauty to shine. Her hair was scooped into a sophisticated low ponytail, with a few face-framing strands pulled to the front of her hat. All in all, a gorgeous, elegant, and modern look for the tennis star whose future certainly looks bright.
