Meghan Markle's “Archetypes” Podcast Goes on Hiatus After Queen Elizabeth II's Death
After just three episodes, Meghan Markle is reportedly putting her “Archetypes” podcast on hiatus after the Sept. 8 death of Queen Elizabeth II. The monarch was 96. Per People, this week’s episode is being held, and it’s unclear when the podcast will resume. Right now, Markle’s priority is no doubt supporting her husband, Prince Harry, as he mourns the loss of his grandmother.
On Saturday, Markle joined Harry, Prince William, and Kate, Princess of Wales, as they walked the grounds of Windsor Castle to view tributes for the queen and speak to mourners. With Queen Elizabeth’s funeral set to take place on Sept. 19, Harry and Markle will likely remain in the UK at least through the next week. As England observes a period of mourning alongside the royal family, it only makes sense for “Archetypes” to pause its rollout of new episodes for now.
Markle’s podcast, which is part of a multiyear deal that the Sussexes have with Spotify, aims to “investigate the labels that try to hold women back,” according to the official press release. In the debut episode, which premiered Aug. 23, the host spoke with Serena Williams about ambition and motherhood. In the second episode, she sat down with Mariah Carey to discuss what it means to be labelled a “diva,” and in the most recent episode, Markle and Mindy Kaling chatted about their high school experiences.
Future episodes of “Archetypes” will feature stars like Constance Wu, Margaret Cho, Issa Rae, and Ziwe, as reported by The Cut. Upon its debut, “Archetypes” became the number one podcast in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Given its popularity, the podcast will likely return soon – but not until Markle and Harry feel an appropriate amount of time has passed since his grandmother’s death.
