Netflix Is Casting For the Squid Game Reality Show — Here’s How You Can Apply
Netflix has announced it’s making a real-life Squid Game, except with reality TV cameras and no threat of death. Squid Game: The Challenge will recreate the formula from the show, where hundreds of contestants play traditional Korean children’s games to win enough money to escape debt. In the show, the eliminated players are killed, but Netflix promises that “in this game the worst fate is going home empty-handed.”
How to Apply For Squid Game: The Challenge
Netflix will be casting 456 players for the reality show, the same number of contestants as in the series. That will make it the biggest reality show ever made, and Netflix claims it also has the biggest lump-sum cash prize in any reality show: the winner will take home $4.56 million.
To apply, all you have to do is submit a one-minute video at squidgamecasting.com telling them about yourself, why you want to compete in the show, what your game plan would be and what you’d do with the prize money if you won.
Casting is open to people from all over the world, and there are different portals on the casting website for US casting, UK casting and global casting, which is where Australians can apply.
Here’s the full criteria to be eligible for global casting:
- At least 21 years old
- Available to film for up to 4 weeks, currently anticipated to be in early 2023
- Hold a valid passport and have the right to and be able to travel
- Not employed by Netflix or the All3 Media Group now or previously, and are not an immediate relative of an employee at Netflix or the All3 Media Group
- Can speak English
Requiring contestants to speak English is an odd choice considering the show is Korean. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this rule is in place because the gameplay directions will be given in English. Contestants don’t need to speak English as their first language, as long as they can also speak and understand English.
If you’re not feeling brave enough to compete in a real-life Squid Games, you’ll have to wait for season two to be released. Here’s everything we know about that, including our theories about the plot, cast and premiere date.
