Sit Tight, “Euphoria” Fans – You'll Be Waiting a While For Season 3
“Euphoria” season two is coming to an end with the upcoming Feb. 27 finale, and we’re already wondering where the story will go from here. The popular HBO teen drama was renewed for season three on Feb. 4, following a record-breaking season, having raked in a massive viewership of 2.4 million with its season two premiere. And though much of how season three will unfold hinges on where the second season leaves our characters, there’s already buzz building about what the future holds for our East Highland teens. Read on to learn everything we know about “Euphoria” season three so far, including its expected premiere date, plot details, and more.
What Will "Euphoria" Season 3 Be About?
While most plot details about “Euphoria” season three are still under wraps, the actors who portray these complex characters have given insight into where they want their onscreen personas to go next.
Maude Apatow, who plays Lexi on the series, opened up to Entertainment Weekly in February about her hopes for the slow-burn romance brewing between Fez and Lexi (aka Fexi). When asked about what season three holds for Fexi, she said she’d love to explore more of her relationship with Fez, if he’s still a part of season three, that is. “I love working with Angus. I think Angus is such a great actor, and we just have so much fun working together,” she says. “So for selfish reasons, I hope we get to do more scenes together because it’s fun.”
Similarly, Chloe Cherry, who plays Faye, hopes to return in season three and expressed a desire fo her character to grow closer to Rue in future seasons. “I think Faye has a story of addiction to tell as Rue does; even though it’s different,” Cherry told Variety. “I think that they could learn something from each other. I also think Rue is a non-judgmental character, and I think that is all Faye needs. I think if they got closer, they would get along because they have these shared experiences, and they are both chill girls in spite of it.” Seeing how fun their season two premiere scenes together were, we’d love to see Rue and Faye bonding in season three.
Barring any major surprises in the upcoming season two finale, it’s safe to assume Nate, Maddy, and Cassie will continue to deal with the fallout of their love triangle (if you can even call it that), while Fez and Ashtray will likely have to work through the aftermath of whatever Custer has planned with the police.
As for Rue, we’ll hopefully see her working on her journey to sobriety as she and Jules try to work out their fractured relationship in season three.
Which Cast Members Are Returning For "Euphoria" Season 3?
Barring any unexpected deaths in the eagerly anticipated season two finale of “Euphoria,” the main cast members of the series are expected to return for season three, which include Zendaya (Rue), Hunter Schafer (Jules), Nika King (Leslie Bennett), Eric Dane (Cal Jacobs), Alexa Demie (Maddy), Barbie Ferreira (Kat), Maude Apatow (Lexi), Sydney Sweeney (Cassie), Jacob Elordi (Nate), Javon Walton (Ashtray), Storm Reid (Gia Bennett), Colman Domingo (Ali), and Austin Abrams (Ethan).
While we’re crossing our fingers that Angus Cloud (Fezco) makes it to the third season, his fate remains up in the air until the season two finale airs. Season two additions like Dominic Fike (Elliot), Minka Kelly (Samantha), Martha Kelly (Laurie), and Cherry Chloe (Faye) might also return for another round. Any details on new faces joining season three of “Euphoria” are still forthcoming.
How Many Episodes Will "Euphoria" Season 3 Have?
Both season one and season two of “Euphoria” had eight episodes, with the first season getting two additional hour-long special episodes focusing on Rue and Jules to hold fans over amid COVID-related filming delays.
Season three of “Euphoria” will likely consist of eight episodes as well, each clocking in at about an hour.
When Will "Euphoria" Season 3 Come Out?
Fans might have to wait quite a while to devour “Euphoria” season three, as Zendaya’s schedule is jam-packed for the rest of the year.
The former Disney Channel star has her hands full as she’ll be shooting the highly anticipated sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune,” as well as the recently announced romantic drama “Challengers.”
It’s unclear whether we’ll be treated to special episodes in the interim as we did with the two-and-a-half-year hiatus between seasons one and two, but chances are season three of Euphoria won’t hit BINGE until 2024.
