Today Netflix launched a mobile gaming platform, appropriately called Netflix Games, and it’s available to existing subscribers at no extra cost. There are five games available at launch, including Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3: The Game, the mobile tie-ins the streaming service released for its popular show. It also has Shooting Hoops, Card Blast and Teeter Up.
All you need to access Netflix Games is an active Netflix subscription — and yes, that means everyone on your account can play. When you log into Netflix on your Android device, you’ll see a new games row and games tab where you can select a game to download. Just like the streaming service, there are no ads, additional fees or in-app purchases, either.
As for the games themselves, the Stranger Things titles are cute retro adventures that continue the story of Hopper and the kids in Hawkins. They were previously available for iOS and Android but will now appear exclusively on Netflix Games.
Shooting Hoops, Card Blast and Teeter Up, which were previously only available in Spain, Italy and Poland, are the kind of mobile games you can play while you wait for the bus or have a spare few minutes to unwind.
“We love games, whether they’re physical games (Floor Is Lava), mind games (The Circle) or Squid Game,” said Netflix in a statement announcing the new gaming platform. “And we love entertaining our members. That’s why we’re excited to take our first step in launching Netflix Games on mobile to the world.”
“Whether you’re craving a casual game you can start from scratch or an immersive experience that lets you dig deeper into your favourite stories, we want to begin to build a library of games that offers something for everyone.”
“And we’re just getting started. We’re excited to continue improving our mobile gaming experience and adding to our entertainment offering in the months ahead.”
Looks like this is just the beginning for Netflix Games.
