Kin Fertility Is Helping Women Navigate the Fourth Trimester With New Postpartum Bundles
The fourth trimester refers to the 12 week period following the birth of a baby. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, don’t worry! The idea of the fourth trimester is relatively new, having been coined in 2002, and it suggests that you should emulate womb-like conditions for this time.
There is also an emphasis on the adjustment of the mother, who is also undergoing massive emotional and physical changes and needs extensive support during this time. To help those in the fourth trimester, Australian start-up Kin Fertility has created two postpartum bundles to make this transition into parenthood a little easier.
“So many women focus on preparing for birth, that we often forget about the recovery period after,” said Kin’s founder Nicole Liu. “But this is often is the toughest period. It’s why we created these kits and developed them with new mums in mind; to help women navigate the postpartum period with confidence, dignity, and comfort in knowing they’re looking after their bodies.”
The Postpartum Recovery Kit ($119) includes a four-step all-in-one regiment that is designed to help heal the vagina and relieve discomfort following birth. According to Kin, a whopping 85 to 90 per cent of first-time mums experience tearing, with 43 per cent also suffering from hemorrhoids.
To help clean, soothe, restore and help new mothers, this kit includes The Peri Bottle (to clean your vagina), The Mesh Panties (designed for the postpartum period), The Soothing Padsicles (instant cold therapy and an absorbent pad in one) and the Healing Foam (which fights bacteria and reduces swelling). To create this kit, Kin consulted with new mums to make sure all of the goodies included were helpful for this time.
“Most women are ill-prepared for the postpartum period, through no fault of their own,” says Liu. “They’re sent home from the hospital with a handful of adult diapers or pads and are given little instruction on how to help heal their bodies. We created a simple four-step routine with our essentials as a way to help new mums look after themselves, so they could focus on what’s in front of them.”
Breastfeeding Essentials ($105) is the second kit on offer and it’s designed to tackle the most common breastfeeding issues including undersupply, oversupply, blocked milk ducts and engorgement. In the kit, you’ll find three pairs of eco-friendly and absorbent Breast Pads as well as The Nipple Cream — an all-natural, Australian-made formula that is designed to prevent nipple discomfort and cracking. This beauty is also safe to use while breastfeeding so you don’t need to wipe it off before the next feed.
Rounding out the Essentials kit is the Lactamo Ball — this award-winning breast massager is the only device proven to reactively and proactively address all four common breastfeeding issues. Created by an Australian mother of four, this device also works to improve the quality of breastmilk.
“A whopping 92 per cent of women experience breastfeeding challenges; from oversupply, undersupply, blocked milk ducts, engorgement and more,” said Liu. “That really didn’t sit well with us. We’ve curated our bundle to actually solve these issues, and we’re proud to be able to make the process even that little bit easier for mums who have chosen to breastfeed.”
While the transition from pregnancy to parenthood is never a smooth one, these kits help to make this journey a little easier. Get yourself prepped for your fourth trimester or gift one to a friend. For more information, head to kinfertility.com.au.
