I Tried RXBar’s New Plant Protein Bars, and the Peanut Butter Tastes Like Reese’s Filling!
Before I went fully plant-based last summer, I was eating RXBars every day as a quick source of protein and a little after-dinner treat. But since they’re made with egg whites, I couldn’t have them anymore, unless I made them myself. Now, RXBar has new Plant protein bars in two flavours – Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip – and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them. Keep reading to see the simple ingredient list, the nutritional info, what they look like, and, most importantly, how they taste.
RXBar Plant Protein Bar Ingredients
Just like regular RXBars, these Plant bars are made with minimal ingredients. The Peanut Butter flavor is made with dates, peanuts, pea protein, oats, natural flavors, almond protein, and salt. The Chocolate Chip flavor is made with dates, cashews, pea protein, oats, chocolate, natural flavors, almond protein, and salt. Super simple!
RXBar Plant Protein Bar Nutritional Information
These Plant RXBars have 210 calories, eight to nine grams of fat, zero grams of cholesterol, 50 to 65 grams of sodium, 25 to 26 grams of carbs, three to four grams of fiber, and 16 to 17 grams of sugar (zero grams of added sugar) and offer 10 grams of protein.
For comparison, a regular Peanut Butter RXBar has 200 calories, seven grams of fat, zero grams of cholesterol, 310 grams of sodium, 25 grams of carbs, five grams of fiber, and 15 grams of sugar (zero grams of added sugar) and offers 12 grams of protein. They’re pretty similar!
What Do RXBar Plant Protein Bars Look Like?
I was anxious to tear open the wrapper and noticed these RXBar plant-based bars look different than regular RXBars. The texture is much drier and more crumbly as opposed to being shiny and chewy. They remind me more of a cookie than a date-based bar, which made it easy to break off pieces to have half at a time if I only wanted a little bite. Another bonus to the texture is that in the heat, they don’t get all soft and melty.
How Do RXBar Plant Protein Bars Taste?
The flavors of both the Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip RXBAR Plant bars are sweet but not at all overpowering. Since they’re made with pea protein, they definitely have a subtle protein-powder flavor, but not in a chalky way. The dates, oats, and nuts balance that out.
I instantly liked the Peanut Butter flavor better, as it reminded me of the sweet, nutty filling in Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Unlike the big pieces of nuts in regular RXBars, it has teeny-tiny pieces of peanuts throughout.
Where Can I Buy RXBar Plant Protein Bars?
RXBar Plant protein bars cost $2 per bar or $7 for a four-count box. They’re available on the RXBar website ($26 for 12) or through Amazon ($30 for 12). You can also find them in stores at Target or Kroger, with more retailers to come as they continue to roll out!
I’m excited to buy a case so I can keep them in my purse, my car, the pool bag, and my kids’ lunchboxes so we always have a quick, healthy snack on hand.
