There’s a Reason Your Libra Friend Always Looks So Good
Astrology has a way of guiding us through life, but it’s also a good way to understand yourself better, too. If your birthday falls between September 23 and October 22 (give or take a day or two, depending on the year), that makes you a romantic Libra. The intellectual air sign is charming, sociable, and relationship-oriented. It’s their ability to compromise and diffuse a situation by hearing both sides that certify them as the diplomats of the zodiac – they’re symbolised by the Scales of Justice, after all. Despite their cunning charm and sharp wit, they have a hard time making decisions and have a tendency to play both sides – but it’s only because they want to make everyone happy. Libra’s social magnetism and desire for harmony are only a couple of reasons why these charming chatterboxes are the life of the party.
Whether you’re a Libra yourself or you just want to better understand the Libras in your life, read on as astrologer Ryan Marquardt shares everything you need to know about Libra’s personality traits.
Libra Traits: They’re Smooth Talkers
As air signs, Libras are naturally good at communicating their bright ideas. But unlike the other air signs, Gemini and Aquarius, Libras are partnership-oriented. That means they know how to work a crowd and connect with others on an intimate level in order to charm their audience into getting behind their ideas.
“Their social etiquette is top-tier. They have a knack for being able to word things in the most graceful way possible,” Marquardt tells POPSUGAR. “When Libras have a point to make, you understand and appreciate what they’re saying.”
Libra Traits: They’re Fashionistas
If there’s one thing about Libra, it’s that they’ll be the best dressed in the room There’s a reason behind Libra’s impeccable sense of fashion. For one, they’re ruled by Venus, the planet of beauty and aesthetics. They’re all about the shiny, fancy things – and whether they’re a minimalist or maximalist, they have a way of setting trends.
“Venus is how we relate in general – not just to people, but to colors, shapes, and lines also,” explains Marquardt. “There are so many Libra style icons that showcase this: Kim Kardashian, Dita Von Teese, Gwen Stefani, Ralph Lauren, Isaac Mizrahi, Donna Karan, the list goes on and on.”
Libra Traits: They Over-Compromise
They may be good at negotiating, but it often comes at the price of their own needs. Because Libras are all about fairness and harmony, they can often sell themselves short or make sacrifices in order to prioritise everyone else. This is one of Libra’s weaknesses: They want other people to be happy, even if it costs their own happiness.
“For example, when Libras are in an imbalanced relationship, they struggle to assert themselves because they’re worried about rocking the boat even further,” explains Marquardt. “So instead of standing up for themselves, Libras will sit with that imbalance way longer than they should.”
Libra Traits: They Can Be Judgmental
Of course, no one is perfect, and every zodiac sign has its dark side. Libras aren’t symbolised by the Scales for no reason. When they assume the mediator role, they know both sides of the story, giving them double the opportunity to criticise both parties. But this Libra trait is a double-edged sword. On one hand, being judgey can be a negative Libra trait, passing for mean-girl energy; but on the other, it can be used for good, to instil balance and fairness during conflict.
“Libras can give that icy, look-you-up-and-down vibe and they’re not shy about judging other people if they don’t like what they see,” says Marquardt. “But they know how to right the wrongs, especially when it comes to situations of injustice.” In the end, these are just a few of the characteristic Libra personality traits that make this cardinal air sign unique.
