Season 3 of Ted Lasso might be held up, but the mustachioed soccer coach will make his debut in FIFA 23 when it comes out on September 30, along with Roy Kent, Sam Obisanya, Jamie Tartt, Dani Rojas, Isaac McAdoo and Coach Beard.
The announcement is a dream come true for fans of the show, because you’ll be able to select Ted as your manager in Career Mode and play as AFC Richmond in Career Mode, Kick-Off, Online Friendlies and Online Seasons.
But you can also create your own custom player to join AFC Richmond, or create your own manager to lead the team to victory.
There’ll also be manager items for Ted and Coach Beard to unlock, as well as AFC Richmond kits, stadium vanity items like badges and flags, and even Nelson Road Stadium, the home of the Greyhounds, as an unlockable club.
“I am truly fortunate, and deeply grateful, to have had many special moments in my career thus far, and I consider this experience among the best of them,” Ted Lasso star and creator Jason Sudeikis said in the official announcement. “We look forward to our fans having the opportunity to play with, play as, and even play against their favorite AFC Richmond characters.”
“It is so f***ing cool to be in FIFA. I’m not sure this is going to help dispel the CGI rumours but f*** it, totally worth it,” said Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent and writes for the show. “I look forward to beating my nephew in a game with me as Roy Kent and him as Jamie Tartt. He’s gonna be furious.”
The FIFA 23 release date is September 30, and pre-orders are live for the Standard and Ultimate Editions. The Ultimate Edition comes with additional in-game items and three-days early access, and anyone who pre-orders the Standard Edition will also get a few in-game bonuses.
