The PS5 Now Comes in Dreamy New Colours
When the PS5 was first announced, people joked that it looked more like a fridge than a console. There’s no denying the design is slick, but it’s size (so much bigger than the PS4 and even the current gen Xbox) and bold, flared front plate caused quite a stir online. Now, though Sony has revealed the Galaxy Collection, a new range of PS5 controllers and console covers with a galaxy-inspired colour palette. And they look beautiful! The new colours include Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, Galactic Purple, Cosmic Red and Midnight Black. The Galaxy Collection will have a staggered launch, but we’ve broken it all down for you here.
The Galaxy Collection will begin with the new range of DualSense wireless controllers, which will hit stores in January 2022. The Midnight Black and Cosmic Red console covers will be available at the same time. After that, the Nova Pink, Starlight Blue and Galactic Purple console covers will become available during the first half of 2022, although Sony haven’t confirmed a release date yet.
Sony also notes that the exact release date in January may vary by location, so keep an eye on your local retailers to find out when the new colours go on sale.
It’s easy to swap out your default console cover for one of the new colours. “Simply remove your original white PS5 console covers and click your new ones into place,” Sony advises in a blog post. The covers will be available for the physical and digital consoles, but you’ll have to buy the right cover for your PS5 version.
The Galaxy Collection faceplates and controllers will be available from the PlayStation Store and participating retailers when they launch in January. The new colours are beautiful, and definitely elevate the design of the console to match its high-end performance. Now the only question is which Galaxy Collection item are you going to get, and will you get a matching cover and controller or mix and match the new colours? Much to think about.
