Watch the Incredible Trailer For the New Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Expansion
The next expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is called Dawn of Ragnarok and it already looks incredible. The expansion will dive deeper into the mythical side of the game, putting players in the role of Odin as he fights to save the dwarven realm of Svartalfheim and save his son Baldr from the immortal fire giant Surtr. As Odin, you’ll have access to divine powers, like the ability to take the form of a raven to cross the battlefield and to absorb your enemy’s powers and use them to your advantage.
That’s a mouthful, so watch the trailer here and then we’ll regroup:
Ragnarok is a significant event in Norse mythology that heralds a great battle and the death of the gods. This isn’t the first time it’s been mentioned in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, either. The Asguard and Jotunheim sagas fortell the approach of Ragnarok, which is what causes Odin and the other gods to be reborn as characters in the main story.
We saw glimpses of Ragnarok in these sagas, but the Dawn of Ragnarok trailer is our first real look at this mythological apocalypse. Interestingly, we also see the animus glitching between Odin and Eivor, so we know that we’ll be playing as Eivor for at least some of the expansion.
Ubisoft also announced a crossover between Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Odyssey which will bring Kassandra and Eivor together for the first time. Assassin’s Creed Crossover Stories will add new quests in both games — as Kassandra in Odyssey, you’ll go in search of a mythical treasure in “Those Who Are Treasured”, and you can then play the crossover story “A Fated Encounter” in Valhalla. It’s unclear yet whether the new stories will allow you to play as the game’s male character options — but we know that Kassandra and female Eivor are cannon.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla — Dawn of Ragnarok will be available on March 10 for $40. Crossover Stories will be available on December 14 and will be free for anyone who owns the base games.
