What Is Goop at Sea? The Lowdown on Gwyneth Paltrow’s Wellness Retreat on Water
In January 2020, Gwyneth Paltrow announced the launch of ‘Goop at Sea’ — a Mediterranean cruise hosted by Paltrow and Goop’s chief content officer Elise Loehnen. The wellness retreat was originally due to depart from Barcelona, Spain on August 26, 2020, but given the circumstances of last year, this didn’t go ahead.
A year on from the start of the pandemic, “the most stylish cruise ever” is back on the menu. That’s right, Paltrow and Celebrity Cruises (the cruise line company) are due to announce the updated sailing date and ticket information for 2022.
“I am always happiest by, in or on the sea!” Paltrow wrote on Instagram. “In 2022 my @goop team and I are going to join @celebritycruises on their new ship, Celebrity Beyond. I’ll be behind the scenes, working on some special projects, as Celebrity’s new Well-being Advisor. My team @goop is curating programming and fitness kits to add to Celebrity’s wellness the experience [sic]. I’m sworn to secrecy on the rest—keep an eye out for the details coming soon.”
What exactly does Goop at Sea entail? Well, not only does the 11-night luxury retreat allow you to travel like Paltrow, but it also allows you to set sail with Paltrow herself. According to Forbes, guests aboard the “self-optimisation retreat” will have the opportunity to meet both Paltrow and Loehnen as well as other practitioners and healers.
As for the goings-on aboard the ship, “guests who purchase tickets can expect a roster of our trailblazing healers; transformative workshops for mind, body, and soul; intimate conversation between Elise and GP; and plenty of surprises—and goopy perks—along the way,” reads the Goop website.
Alongside sessions designed for self-development, guests will have access to “swimming pools galore, cushy beds for lie-ins, room service, and tech-forward spa treatments”, which, according to Goop, will “form the bedrock of our daily offshore routine”.
This includes staying in state-of-the-art suites that are kitted out with every luxury you’d find in a hotel and are serviced by a personal butler who will handle your unpacking as well as organising dinner reservations for you. As for the food and drink element, guests can sip artisanal cocktails and sample food from chef Daniel Boulud, which includes “French cuisine, nightly amuse-bouches, and the gorgeous dessert trolley with cakes, chewy cookies, and homemade candies.”
While the details on when the Goop cruise will be kicking off are yet to be released, there’s one thing we can say for certain: It’s going to be an expensive experience.
