Reusable Face Masks That Provide Protection and Cost Less Than $20
Popping on a face mask is an easy way to protect yourself — as well as those around you — from COVID-19. It’s another barrier of defence, alongside hand hygiene and social distancing. While you can wear single-use surgical masks, it’s a much better option for the environment, and your pocket, to invest in a few reusable face masks.
But, these don’t have to be expensive purchases. In fact, you can find protective face masks for as little as $6. These can be worn and washed as much as needed and come in a variety of colours and patterns.
Uniqlo AIRism Face Mask
The AIRism Face Mask ($19.90 for three) by Uniqlo has been thoughtfully designed to provide protection and comfort. The first and third layer is made from flexible AIRism mesh for added breathability, while the second layer blocks 99% of particles including bacteria and pollen.
Dangerfield Face Mask
Coming in a variety of colours patterns — including polka dot, gingham and tartan — Dangerfield’s Face Masks ($15) are made from 100% cotton and come with eight single-use nano melt-blown filters. The mask has two layers as well as the filter pocket and the ear straps can be adjusted.
Stitched by Megan Reusable Face Mask
Etsy is filled with face masks in all different colours, patterns and sizes. A simple search on Etsy returns hundreds of options for you to choose from. One great Etsy shop to support is Stitched by Megan, who hand sews face masks and donates $5 from every mask sold to an Australian charity. So far, Megan has donated over $1,300 to four different charities. Each Reusable Face Mask ($20) is made from tightly woven 100% cotton and includes two layers, as well as an aluminium strip in the nose so the mask sits snugly against your face.
The Social Studio Reusable Face Masks
Created by Melbourne-based not-for-profit social enterprise The Social Studio, these Reusable Face Masks ($11) feature three layers of breathable material. The inner layer is made from 100% cotton, while the middle layer is a non-woven interfacing fabric, which acts as a filter. The outer layer is made from water repellent polyester. Choose from patterns including floral, stripes and polka dots.
Kmart Adult Face Mask
Budget-friendly retailer Kmart has a variety of face masks to choose from. Each Adult Face Mask ($6) is made from two layers of protective material and comes with elasticised adjustable straps. At just $6 per mask, this is an extremely affordable option that you can wash and wear again and again.
Cotton On Foundation Face Mask
Made from cotton and coming in two different sizes (small/medium and medium/large), Cotton On has a variety of face masks to choose from in different patterns. These Adult Face Masks ($9.99) come with adjustable elastic straps and have been shown to filter at least 90% of airborne particles. 100% of proceeds go towards the Cotton On Foundation, which empowers youth through education and access to healthcare.
Second Stitch 2 Layer Reusable Face Mask
Another not-for-profit social enterprise based in Melbourne, Second Stitch celebrates the unique skills and traditions of refugees, migrants and people seeking asylum. The 2 Layer Reusable Face Masks ($15) created by the team at Second Stitch are machine washable, contain two layers and also have an added cotton lining pocket where you can pop in an additional filter.
