POPSUGAR Australia has partnered with Klarna and OZSALE to help you find the trends worth investing in this summer.
Now that we’ve entered August and can feel the early signs of spring in the air, we’re turning our attention to getting our wardrobes sorted for the warmer months. In short: we’re ready to kick off our boots and slip on a pair of joy-sparking slides and sandals to usher in the sunnier weather.
As always, we’re turning to discerning celebrities, to see what they’ve favoured during European summer and the hot streets of New York City. The hallmark trends of the 2022 northern hemisphere summer include pops of bright colours, and stylish comfort, plus enduring styles that are back for another season.
Chunky footwear is one trend that shows no sign of slowing down, and heels with embellished ankle straps are rising to the top, with the likes of Keke Palmer and Yara Shahidi spotted rocking them all summer.
With the new season upon us, we’re heading to OZSALE to shop the huge range of Australian and international brands (including Calvin Klein Underwear, Tommy Hilfiger, Reiss and Adidas) at reduced prices. Even better, everything can be shopped with Klarna, so you can buy now and pay later in four interest-free instalments.
Chunky Thongs
Thongs have been an Aussie staple since the dawn of time (we assume) and in beautiful news coming in the warmer months, they’ve been given a chic upgrade. This summer, opt for thongs in chunkier, leather styles and a flatform sole to give a little lift. For anyone who spent time overseas over winter, you would have seen women rocking these on their way to work, out for drinks, and in parks for summer picnics. We love the padded style of these Jo Mercer Sandals ($100, usually $200), both for their versatility and their ability to dress up any look while maintaining comfort.
Dad Sandals
While Birkenstocks still reign supreme in many circles, dad sandals have definitely started to edge them out over the past few seasons. Popularised by the release of the Chanel Dad Sandals in 2019, the once-ugly footwear trend isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon. For a beachier take on the dad sandals, we’ll be picking up a new pair of the Teva Midform Sandal ($70, usually $140), because they look equally chic with a floaty summer dress as they do on low-key bushwalks. Plus, they are ridiculously comfortable.
Bold Slip-Ons
In 2022, we’re all about dopamine dressing and, this summer, that extends all the way down to our footwear. Few things spark collective joy as thoroughly as Y2K revivals and, this summer, rubber styles are well and truly back, as are raffia mules. Slides have transitioned from indoor-only to out-in-the-world shoes and luxury brands like Bottega Veneta have also released their own versions, like the Twisted Intreccio Raffia Mules ($1223.60, usually $1460), which are the perfect summer heel.
Espadrilles
The espadrille is an enduring summer trend that’s come back with gusto in 2022. Made from a jute or rope material, every designer from LOEWE to Bottega Veneta has released their take on the trend this season. If you want to play it more casual, then opt for the Superga 2790 Fringed Cotton Rope Sneakers ($59, usually $150), which combine two of the year’s biggest trends — flatforms and espadrilles — and are both comfortable and stylish.
You can shop all of these trends right now, on OZSALE with Klarna — so check it all out here.
