Rihanna’s Boots Have Divided the Internet
Rihanna has kept a pretty low profile since welcoming her baby boy with A$AP Rocky back in May, so we were thrilled to be treated to a rare recent sighting — which saw her wearing divisive, of course.
While her bold red lips, RZA album tee and luscious long locks are something to behold — it’s her choice of footwear that everyone is talking about.
Despite the heat in NYC, Rhi was spotted strutting down the sidewalk in thigh-high Y/Project boots ($1080) — a style that appeared multiple times on the brand’s spring/summer 2023 runway.
The boots are made with a variety of materials, including suede, denim, patent leather and regular leather, and cut an exaggerated 3D shape with a slightly turned-up pointed toe.
“We always try to invite our customers to enjoy the garments and play with them,” creative director Glenn Martens told Vogue of the presentation’s many provocative silhouettes. “It’s a bit like Gothic cathedrals, a Flemish vibe… like Bruges.”
The boots were the centrepiece of Y/Project’s latest collection, contrasting with the soft materials and silhouettes and adding a layer of grunge and structure to each look.
Rihanna paired a flared suede version of the boots with a black denim miniskirt by R13, a RZA’s Birth of a Prince (2003) album tee shirt and an archive pistachio anaconda handbag from Tom Ford’s spring/summer 1996 Gucci collection. NTB.
This style of extreme thigh-high boot has been slowing making its way onto the high fashion scene, with its pointed toe, looser fit and and crumbled texture.
Whether it’s Vivienne Westwood on Julia Fox or Balenciaga on Kim Kardashian, it seems that many top designers are incorporating this exaggerated thigh-high boot into their new collections.
What do you think of them?
