As a curvy girl, I’m not only nervous about wearing pants, but also shopping for them. I’m haunted by the countless times I’ve tried on a pair of pants I’m obsessed with, only to find that they don’t fit, and that familiar feeling of sinking shame that seeps in no matter if I’m in my bedroom or a store’s changing rooms.
But, if you’ve ever felt the same let me tell you: it’s not you, it’s the pants. It’s all about finding the right pants for you, which means trying a bunch of styles and working out what fits, as well as doing your measurements with a tape measure at home and then shopping online accordingly.
With a big butt and juicy thighs, I definitely have an eye for what looks good on curves. But regardless of your size, finding flattering pants is also about what you feel comfortable in, whether that’s big and baggy, high-waisted and tight, or flowy and soft.
That said, here are seven staple pants for women with curvy figures (and, honestly, for women of all other figures, too).
Atmos&Here Trudie Gingham Pants
You can’t go wrong with a gingham capri pant, and these Atmos&Here Trudie Gingham Pants ($79.99) are a funky and flattering option. Available in sizes 18 – 26, their high waisted cigarette cut elongates the legs, especially if paired with a heel. You could wear them casually with a tee shirt (as pictured) or turtleneck, then dress them up with a pair of platform heels.
Moira Hughes - The White Label Ariana Pants
These Moira Hughes – The White Label Ariana Pants ($320) are a total no-brainer when it comes to flattering pants for curves. They have a thick waistband and soft pleats down the front that give nice movement and fall on your curves in a complimentary way. They come in sizes 8 – 18, and would be one of those pieces you always wear.
Dilyenne High Waist Straight Leg Pants in Green
I mean, these Dilyenne High Waist Straight Leg Pants in Green ($79.95) are just fun! Coming in sizes 6 – 16 and our favourite shade of green, these pants actually come in a range of pastels, too, like blue, pink and camel.
BWLDR Mason Pants
In another leather moment, these BWLDR Mason Pants ($99.95) offer up classic black vegan leather in a slightly more comfy, baggy style. The split detail on the hem is just begging for a bold shoe, and the high waist makes them super comfortable for curves.
AERE Two Tone Rib Flared Knit Pants
The AERE Two Tone Rib Flared Knit Pants ($130) are totally different. Made in a stretchy mix of materials, they’re also super comfy. They go up to a size 16, but given the stretch in the fabric, you can probably go a size down.
Shona Joy Priscila High Waisted Tailored Pants
Obsessed with these Shona Joy Priscila High Waisted Tailored Pants ($260), especially when paired with their matching Shona Joy Priscila Tailored Fitted Vest ($180) for a full tailored outfit. If you’re a curvy gal looking for a functional but stunning suit to wear on all occasions; look no further.
The pants would also be a great purchase on their own, paired with an oversized knit or neutral tone turtleneck and heeled boots.
Cotton On Curve Scout Cargo Pants
For a different look entirely, these Cotton On Curve Scout Cargo Pants ($59.95) are very ‘in’ right now, but put some feminine in the cargo skater girl fad with this pastel pink shade. These pants would work fantastically in the lead up to spring, as you could wear them with a big baggy knit and platform kicks, or a singlet and sandals as pictured. These pants range from a size 16 – 24.
