Troian Bellisario and Patrick J. Adams Delivered Their Baby in the Car, and Wow, It Was a Wild Ride
Talk about making an entrance! Troian Bellisario and husband Patrick J. Adams are both known for their dramatic acting roles, but nothing could’ve prepared them for the wildest off-screen adventure of their lives: the moment their second daughter was born in the car. The couple joined Katie Lowes for an episode of her podcast, Katie’s Crib, where they shared the scary details surrounding their daughter Elliot’s birth. When Troian’s contractions were coming close together and became uncomfortable, they decided to go to the hospital. They admittedly didn’t think anything of moving quickly, as her labour with their first daughter in 2018 was over 26 hours. They weren’t in “panic mode,” but to say that this birth was different than her first would be an understatement.
“I’m starting to have to push my seat belt away from me. I’m in a lot of pain, but I’m also like, ‘I can’t be in this position anymore,'” Troian shared. Once they pulled into the hospital parking lot, things started escalating. “As soon as I hit the button and get the ticket, she’s screaming,” Patrick said. “I whip around, and by the time I turn my head around, Troian is fully on her hands and knees and we’ve gone nuclear.”
Patrick drove “1000 miles an hour,” and when he finally got to the front of the emergency room, he shouted at the security guard for help. “I get up to the guy and I say, ‘It’s all happening, in the car. You need to get the wheelchair down here, you need to get the people, all the people! All the professionals! It’s happening!'” And phew, was it happening!
When Patrick opened the car door, his wife was on all fours in the back row “doing one of her incredible howls.” Then, Troian started yelling at him to help her get her pants off because the baby was more than ready to come out. “So, she is still on all fours, butt facing the windshield. Her butt’s at my head level, so I just go and pull down her pants, and [the baby’s] head is right there,” Patrick detailed. “She was crowning.”
“There was no room for panic. You just need to deal with this situation.”
With his wife in labour and screaming at the top of her lungs right in front of the hospital entrance, Patrick knew what he had to do. “There was no room for panic. You just need to deal with this situation,” he said. That situation would be delivering his baby girl himself. While many of us have to think twice about what we had for dinner the night before, Patrick attempted to jog his memory of his wife’s delivery of their first child. He encouraged his wife to push, “checked the neck” to make sure the umbilical cord wasn’t wrapped around it, and “one more push and the baby was all the way out,” Patrick said, adding that this all took place in a matter of three minutes. Wild!!!
He turned Elliot upside down to make sure no fluids got into her nose or mouth, and she started crying immediately. “I just look over my shoulder, because I’m still on all fours, and I see Patrick holding her upside down, and she’s wailing, so I was like, ‘She’s alive, she’s OK. She’s breathing,” Troian added. Holy sh*t, talk about a stressful moment. We have to wonder if the doctors ever made it to the entrance of the hospital only to find Patrick holding their baby upside down and Troian in the car on all fours.
Earlier this month, Troian shared a photo of their baby girl on Instagram, writing, “Ms Elliot Rowena Adams joined us on May 15th under the wildest of circumstances. A whole new ERA for this family. Welcome, my love.” Patrick also shared a photo on Instagram, writing, “+1….. Welcome to the funhouse, Ms. Elliot Rowena Adams. May your life be as unique and exciting as your arrival.” Exciting, indeed! Congratulations to Troian and Patrick on the birth of their second baby girl.
