Taylor Jenkins Reid fans, rejoice! Netflix announced on March 24 that it’s adapting Reid’s best-selling novel “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” into a movie for the streamer. It will be written by Liz Tigelaar, who served as the showrunner for another book-to-screen adaptation, “Little Fires Everywhere.” Reid will serve as executive producer alongside Margaret Chernin.
Here’s the synopsis Netflix gave: “Reclusive Hollywood legend Evelyn Hugo chooses an unknown reporter, Monique Grant, to tell her life story. Evelyn recounts her time in the Golden Age of Hollywood, her rise to fame, and her seven marriages – revealing stunning secrets and lies. But through it all one question remains: Why has she chosen Monique for her final confession?”
The book was was first released in 2017, and quickly grew a massive following of fans. That year, it won the Goodreads Choice Award for historical fiction, and it’s become a perennial favourite on BookTok. Freeform was previously working on an adaptation, but Reid confirmed in 2021 that they no longer had a series in the works. Meanwhile, another of Reid’s novels, “Daisy Jones & the Six,” is being turned into a series for Amazon Prime.
There’s no word yet on casting for “Evelyn Hugo,” though fans across social media surely have tons of ideas. Netflix hasn’t announced a release date or director yet, so readers will have to be patient!
