Pete Davidson Has Mastered Comedy – Next He'll Tackle Horror Movies

Davidson appeared in a cameo in “Trainwreck,” starring Amy Schumer and Bill Hader. He played a stoned patient of Hader’s. The role was what got him noticed by Lorne Michaels after Hader’s recommendation. “I told Lorne Michaels about him, said he was really funny,” Hader said in a 2017 interview with Entertainment Weekly. “And then they auditioned him for a piece, and Lorne called me to say Pete got the show. I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s wonderful!'”

Davidson’s breakout came through “Saturday Night Live.” He was a cast member from 2014 to 2022, and recurring sketches like Weekend Update’s “Resident Young Person” and “Chad” made him into a comedy star.

Davidson played a 20-something incapable of growing up in this 2019 feature, appearing as the only friend of 16-year-old Monroe “Mo” Harris, the movie’s protagonist. Playing adults unable to grow up would become Davidson’s specialty in later films.

Davidson’s semi-autobiographical feature “The King of Staten Island” also portrayed Davidson as a twenty-something, still living in his mother’s house and stuck in a kind of never-ending adolescence. He co-wrote the feature with Judd Apatow, who also directed the surprisingly heartwarming feature.

Davidson played Blackguard in James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad,” appearing alongside Margot Robbie and Idris Elba. In a 2021 interview on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Davidson said he agreed to the role upon hearing his character’s name was Dick Hertz.

Davidson voiced the titular dog in 2022’s “Marmaduke.” The animated film follows a trainer’s effort to turn Marmaduke into a show dog.

Pete Davidson appeared in 2022’s “Good Mourning” alongside his friend Machine Gun Kelly, who directed the film.

Davidson will star as David in A24’s “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” which tells the story of a group of wealthy 20-somethings who play a murderous party game at a giant mansion in the middle of nowhere with no cellular service. Unsurprisingly, things go awry. The film will be released on Aug. 5.

While “Bodies Bodies Bodies” is a comedic horror flick that seems right up Davidson’s alley, the star will be giving genuinely terrifying horror a crack in “The Home,” a Miramax horror film directed by James DeMonaco of “The Purge.” The film stars Davidson as Max, a troubled young man who starts learning ominous secrets about the retirement home where he’s newly employed. He eventually explores its forbidden fourth floor and uncovers disturbing secrets about his own experiences as a foster child.

The film began production in January, and in March, Davidson was photographed on set covered in fake blood. The chilling feature, which will definitely mark a departure from Davidson’s typical style, doesn’t have a release date yet.

In 2020, Davidson announced that he had been cast in Rupert Sanders’s “The Things They Carried,” a film based on Tim O’Brien’s memoir of the same name that chronicles O’Brien’s experiences as a soldier in the Vietnam War. The film, which doesn’t yet have a release date, will have a star-studded cast, including Tom Hardy, Stephan James, Bill Skarsgård, Tye Sheridan, Ashton Sanders, Martin Sensmeier, Moises Arias, and Angus Cloud.

Davidson has already made a semi-autobiographical film with “The King of Staten Island,” and now he’s set to star in a semi-autobiographical TV show. The comedian will write and star in a new series called “Bupkis,” which is set to stream on Peacock.

“Bupkis” is a Yiddish word that means “nothing,” and judging by that definition and Davidson’s oeuvre, the show will heavily feature Davidson’s characteristically witty, self-deprecating, and simultaneously earnest tone. The series doesn’t have a set release date yet.

Davidson will join Sydney Sweeney, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Bad Bunny in “American Sole,” a Kevin Hart-produced feature that follows Davidson and Jackson as two 20-somethings who try to hack the sneaker resale market to achieve the American dream – to mixed results. The film was announced in November 2020 and doesn’t have a release date yet.

Davidson is also set to star in another A24 film titled “Wizards!” alongside Franz Rogowski. Davidson and Rogowski play two stoner beach-bar employees who find some kind of stolen treasure. The movie was announced on May 17 and isn’t expected until 2023 or later.

Davidson will star alongside Kaley Cuoco in this romantic comedy, which doesn’t have a release date yet. It follows a woman living in New York who finds a time machine and uses it to correct and fix parts of a date she had the previous night.
