The Challenge Australia Is Finally Happening — Here’s What We Know
It’s been a massive international success for decades, and now, The Challenge Australia is happening.
Network 10 has announced that Brihony Dawson (who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns) will be hosting the reality competition series, and in a statement promised us that the show will “be like nothing we’ve seen before on Australian TV”.
“It’s high impact, high intensity and will push the contestants to their absolute best,” they continued.
Dawson went on to say that “mental toughness is going to be the main attribute to get contestants through this game” because “there is a lot of physicality needed, but it’s the mentally strong who will ultimately be successful”.
Still, it won’t all be a struggle for the contestants, they explained — the cast will be “living in an uber luxe villa together in Argentina” for their time on the show.
While the cast has yet to be officially announced, 10 has promised that it will include “some of Australia’s biggest reality stars”. The Wash has speculated that the cast will include former Bachelor contestant Brittany Hockley and Megan Marx, as well as Big Brother Australia winner Marley Biyendolo and Married at First Sight star Cyrell Paul.
Meanwhile, if the rumours are to be believed, Married at First Sight star Jessika Power was all set to join the series, but was eventually cut from the cast.
“I had my contract signed, bags packed, everything ready and received a message from my manager stating that the American executives had made a creative decision to not include me on the show despite believing I am ‘good talent’. [sic],” Powers wrote on Instagram.
While we’ll have to wait a little longer to find out which reality stars have made the final cut for the series, what we do know is that you can expect to see extreme challenges that push them to the brink, both mentally and physically, 10 promises. Think a cross between Big Brother Australia, Australian Survivor and SAS Australia.
At the end of the competition, only one competitor will be crowned the winner. They’ll receive $200,000, and will go on to compete in The Challenge: Global Championship, where they’ll be representing Australia in the hopes of becoming the first ever Challenge World Champion. They’ll be up against some stiff competition, though, as they’ll be up against winners from The Challenge: Argentina, The Challenge: USA, and The Challenge: UK.
There’s no word yet on when The Challenge Australia will hit our screens, but word on the street is that cameras are rolling now, so it’s definitely on its way. Stay tuned, and we’ll update this post as soon as we know more.
