Prince Harry and Prince William Present a United Front During Queen Elizabeth II's Coffin Procession
Prince Harry and Prince William presented a united front as they honoured their late “Granny” Queen Elizabeth II on Wednesday, Sept. 14. The brothers walked beside each other in a procession behind Elizabeth’s coffin from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall.
Also participating in the procession were the Queen’s four children – King Charles III, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward, among other royal family members. Harry and William’s wives, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, travelled to Westminster Hall by car and joined the princes inside to pay their respects.
Harry was notably not wearing his military uniform despite having served in the British Army for a decade. It was announced earlier this week that only working members of the royal family would wear military garb for the Queen’s funeral events. In a statement shared with Entertainment Tonight on Sept. 13, a representative for Harry said he implored the public to focus on what’s important.
“Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, will wear a morning suit throughout events honouring his grandmother,” the statement said. “His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears, and we respectfully ask that focus remain on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.” Harry wore his military medals with his morning suit.
Elizabeth died peacefully at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on Sept. 8, with family members by her side. She will lay in state at Westminster Hall until the morning of her funeral on Sept. 19.
