“I Was Ready To Go”: Big Brother’s Nick Benton Was Ready to Leave Before His Eviction
Another day and another eviction and this time, one of Big Brother Australia’s biggest players, Nick Benton.
One half of the “wet bandits” and part of one of the strongest alliances in the house, Nick’s eviction was an absolute blindside.
After speaking with Katie Williams and Jess Trend earlier in the day, Nick was under the impression that the two girls — who were in the opposite alliance — would protect him if they won the challenge. Unfortunately, even though Katie won, she went against her word.
“From my point of view, I wouldn’t change anything because to this day, I was not going to vote for Katie, Jess or Marley [Biyendolo],” Nick told POPSUGAR Australia after his eviction.
“I was brought up that if someone looks you in the eye and shakes your hand, no matter if you’re on a reality TV show or a business deal, that that’s ‘word’. But I learned really quickly that that isn’t what some people think of that.”
According to the 29-year-old, there are no hard feelings and he’s spoken with most people after the show, however, it didn’t take away from the fact that it was still a very intense situation and he was ready to leave the house at the time of his eviction.
“I was ready to go,” Nick admitted. “When I look back at it now, I was really struggling the last few days I was in the house. I think it was day 26 and I was just missing Lara [his now-wife] alot and I was starting to think, ‘I don’t think I can win this. I’m just treading water.”
Nick married Lara after he was evicted from the Big Brother house, and leaving her beforehand was particularly difficult.
“We’ve never gone a day without talking,” he said. “We’ve been together eight years now and people don’t believe it when you say it, but you are just completely cut off and you don’t get any communication with anyone unless something terribly tragic happens.”
Now that the series is airing, Nick is seeing it from a different perspective and when asked who he thinks the ultimate gameplayer is, you might be pretty surprised at who it is.
Rather than naming is “friend for life” Danny, he said Sid Pattni is the one to watch.
“Sid is not making that shown,” Nick said. “He’s not getting into the confrontation. He’s hardly even shown on the episode but I think he understood that. If he gets along with everyone — look he’s been a bit fake at times, but I think you have to be on Big Brother — at the minute, he’s going where the numbers are going.”
Big Brother airs Monday to Wednesday at 7.30 pm on Channel 7 and 7Plus.
