Martha Kalifatidis Opens Up About Her Difficult Pregnancy: “It Was So Hard”
Ever since Martha Kalifatidis and Michael Brunelli announced their pregnancy on Instagram, it’s all anyone can talk about (us included).
The pair, who first met on Married At First Sight, chose to keep the news under wraps for as long as possible after Martha was diagnosed with hyperemesis — a condition that causes severe sickness.
Appearing on KIIS Network’s Will & Woody, the influencer shared details about her pregnancy and the struggles she has faced since finding out the news.
The couple were holidaying in Europe when Martha realised she had missed her period. It was then that she decided to do a pregnancy test.
“We were literally leaving to the South of France and I was like something is not right and then Michael’s like, why don’t you do a test and then we did a test and surprise!” she told the radio hosts.
After reading the results of the test, Martha revealed that she “ran out of the bathroom screaming, ‘What the ef, it’s two lines Michael’” while hyperventilating.
Pregnancy is a journey, and for first-time mums, it’s one that comes with a lot of uncertainty.
For Martha, she revealed that the only time she felt “excited, and all giddy” was a week after finding out they were expecting.
After that, she was diagnosed with hyperemesis, a condition that causes extreme nausea and vomiting 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“You can’t even have a sip of water, you can’t have anything. I had it overseas and it was so hard – the hospitals overseas are good but its not home… the doctor’s over there were a little more dismissive,” said Martha.
She was forced to get on a flight back home from Athens, despite feeling ill, and it required a lot of motivation.
“I left the emergency room in Athens and went straight to the airport and got on the flight. It was 24 hours of me just saying to myself ‘it’s okay, it’s okay’.”
Fingers crossed it’s all smooth sailing from here.
