A Business Magnate and Billionaire: Who Is the Celebrity Apprentice CEO Alan Sugar
If you hadn’t heard of Lord Alan Sugar before now, after the first episode of Celebrity Apprentice Australia 2022, you’re going to want to know a lot more about him.
The business magnate is tasked with putting 16 celebrities through their paces on the brand new season of the hit show and is perfectly cast for this role. Lord Sugar (yes, he really is a Lord) is a business magnate, media personality, author, politician and political advisor.
The 75-year-old has also been the central figure of the UK Apprentice since its conception in 2005 and according to Celebrity Net Worth, he became a billionaire in 2015. Today, he is worth an estimated $2.14 billion, ranking him the 95th-richest person in the UK.
Born in Hackney, London, Lord Sugar came from humble beginnings (his father was a tailor) and lived with his family in a council flat. He is of Jewish origin and has Russian and Polish heritage.
At the age of 21, Sugar started Amstrad (Alan Michael Sugar Trading), which was a general importer/exporter and wholesaler. Later, he also founded Amsair Executive Aviation (Alan Michael Sugar Air), Amsprop (Alan Michael Sugar Property) and Amscreen (Alan Michael Sugar Screening).
Not only is he an entrepreneur, but Sugar was also the chairman and part-owner of the English football club, Tottenham Hotspur from 1991-2001.
He also took an interest in politics and from 1997 to 2015, and was a member of the Labour Party. In June 2009, the then Alan Sugar received the title of “Lord” and was offered a job as the government’s “Enterprise Champion”.
Prior to becoming a Lord, Sugar was Knighted in the 2000 New Year Honours “for services to the Home Computer and Electronics Industry”. He also holds honorary Doctorates of Science and is a philanthropist for various charities. What a resume!
As for his personal life, Lord Sugar married his wife Ann (née Simons), a former hairdresser in 1968. They have two sons (Simon and Daniel) and a daughter (Louise).
