Lance Bass Says His Twin Children Have Total “Opposite” Personalities
Lance Bass and his husband, Michael Turchin, always knew they wanted to become parents. Shortly after the couple got engaged in September 2013, the *NYSNC star told ABC News that he and Turchin “definitely” saw kids in their future. However, they wanted to enjoy being a married couple first before they even thought about starting their own family. “We have a little five-year plan,” Bass said.
After tying the knot in December 2014, Bass and Turchin began their journey to parenthood in 2018 when they found “the most amazing surrogate” to help them start the process. “We are super excited,” Bass told “Today” at the time. “This is the year we’re putting it all together.” However, it wasn’t until much later that the couple officially became fathers.
Following years of struggles with IVF and a pregnancy loss, Bass and Turchin’s dream of starting a family came true when they welcomed twins – a boy named Alexander and a girl named Violet – in October 2021.
Over the years, fans have witnessed the couple’s children grow up on Instagram through various photos and videos. To learn even more about them, click through the slideshow for all the details on Bass and Turchin’s kids.
Lance Bass and Michael Turchin's Son, Alexander
Bass and Turchin’s son, Alexander James, was born on Oct. 13, 2021. He arrived just one minute before his sister, making him the older sibling. A day after their twins entered the world, Bass announced that he and Turchin had become fathers by sharing photos of their children’s birth certificates on Instagram. “The baby dragons have arrived!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I can not express how much love I feel right now,” Bass wrote.
That December, Bass told People that transitioning into parenthood had been “easier” than the couple expected. “They’ve been so well-behaved. They don’t make too much noise,” the singer said of the twins. Turchin added, “They’re just such relaxed, fun, good kids so far.”
Despite their children only being a few months old at the time, Turchin said he could already tell they had “two very different personalities.” As for their son, the actor described “little Alexander” as being “such a sweet, docile little boy.”
However, once their kids became toddlers, Turchin realized Alexander was actually a “ball of crazy energy.” Bass even said that he saw their son following in his entertainer footsteps one day. “They saw Nick Carter and everyone rehearsing and my son was just in awe,” Bass told E! News in February. “He had to get on stage. He held a microphone for the first time and he knew. I’m like, ‘Oh no, we might have a performer.'”
Lance Bass and Michael Turchin's Daughter, Violet
Bass and Turchin welcomed their daughter, Violet Betty, on Oct. 13, 2021. She was born one minute after her brother. Although the twins were both “well-behaved” as babies, Turchin said Violet was more energetic than her brother at first. “[Violet] is way more strong-willed and way more active, and way more opinionated and vocal,” Turchin told People in December 2021.
However, their children’s personalities gradually switched. “Our son and daughter are very opposite of each other, which I love,” Bass explained to E! News in February. “She’s the type that will just be in the corner reading a book. She’s so independent. She’s like, ‘I got this.'”
Apart from showing off their kids on social media, Bass and Turchin have been introducing their twins to the spotlight by bringing them to several red carpets, including an event for the Environmental Media Association in June 2022 and another for CBS’s Home For the Holidays in November 2022. Most recently, the family of four made an appearance at the Gold Meets Golden 10th Anniversary event in February.
