Blessed be the fruit! Season four of The Handmaid’s Tale is officially back.
The most depressingly relevant drama, based on Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel of the same name, has finally been released after being delayed due to COVID-19.
If you’ve been eagerly waiting — as we have — there’s only one way to watch it in Australia.

So, where can you watch season four of The Handmaid’s Tale? SBS On Demand has you sorted. The first three episodes — titled Pigs, Nightshade, and The Crossing — are already available on the platform.
New episodes are being released weekly each Thursday at 7 pm and there are a total of 10 episodes to look forward to.

What happened at the end of season three?
Season three ended with June (Elisabeth Moss) liberating a plane full of children to Canada, and Rita (Amanda Brugel) also making it to the country — to be greeted by Moira (Samira Wiley), Luke (OT Fagbenle) and Emily (Alexis Bledel). As for whether June made it? Nope, she was shot, and the season ended with her being found in the woods by other Handmaids and borne away.
What will season four be about?
According to the showrunner Bruce Miller, this season will focus on environmental issues. Talking to Variety last year, Miller said “Sustainability and environmental issues underpin a lot of the storyline of infertility. That is the underpinning of everything that Gilead uses as an excuse for its misogyny. This is a show that has its basic foundations resting on environmental stories.”
How critics are rating this season
They’re mixed — Entertainment Weekly lamented its slow pace, while Vulture says it’s the best 10-episode run since the first season. Moss’ performance has been praised big time — no surprise, as she’s won both an Emmy and Golden Globe for her work in the role.
