Peddling off the success of Dune, the sci-fi movie is now gearing up for a sequel titled Dune: Part Two, and it seems one of its biggest missing pieces may have been found. Florence Pugh, who is best known for her role in Minsommar and Black Widow, is reportedly in talks to play Princess Irulan, daughter of the evil Emperor Shaddam IV.
But don’t start celebrating just yet. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the deal is not yet confirmed, and because the script is still incomplete, there is a chance Pugh may pass up the role. Not to mention, filming of Dune: Part Two will be happening around the same time as the Madonna biopic, in which Pugh is playing the role of Madonna herself.
Irulan is an important figure within the Dune universe and will most likely feature in upcoming sequels. There are still two major roles up for grabs, and that’s the Emperor, Irulan’s father and ruler of the galaxy, as well as Feyd-Rautha, the villainous nephew of Barron Harkonnen and heir to the family legacy.
The actors who are lucky enough to get cast will join Timothee Chalamet’s Paul Atreides and all the other characters who survived the first film.
Dune has dominated during this year’s award season and has been nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Motion Picture of the Year.
Making more than just one Dune film was always part of Denis Villeneuve’s plan, with the director being very clear in interviews that he fully intended to turn Frank Herbert’s epic novel into two films.
Dune: Part 1 stars Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem but it is so far unknown how many of the original cast will return for the second instalment.
The sequel is expected to land in theatres in the US on October 20, 2023, and hopefully in Australia shortly thereafter.
