Big Brother’s Danny Hayes Is Spilling Tea on His Fellow Housemates Now That He’s Outside
It’s hard to believe it but after 62 days of some of the most strategic and, at times, controversial gameplay, Danny Hayes has been evicted from Big Brother Australia 2021 — just shy of the final handful of contestants who will now go head to head in the live finale on June 29th, 2021.
“I was destroyed in every area. I had a smell of the finish line, I thought I could get there. And I clearly made some errors,” Hayes told POPSUGAR Australia of his shock eviction.
“I’m just incredibly grateful that I got as far as I did, but I did feel I fought for my life a lot of the time against a lot of odds. I dug so deep, I nearly ended up in China!,” he laughed.
Hayes, whose downfall ultimately came by way of Ari, who returned from the mirror room and misled him into believing he’d vote for SJ to be evicted, said that he felt Ari was “a pathological liar from day one till the end” and that, at the end of the day, there was a reason he earned the nickname of “resident rat.”
Responding to Ari’s claim that both Hayes and fellow contestant Marley Biyendolo had unfollowed him on Instagram, Hayes did not mince words. “I virtually follow no one on Instagram from the show,” he said. “Unlike a lot of the other housemates, I actually have a business career and a very, very busy life. My life isn’t just Big Brother — it’s many many areas. And I’m too busy to worry about what Ari is doing.”
As for how Hayes played the game, the dad of two revealed that “the secret to Big Brother is to evolve.”
“It’s not the big that eats the small, it’s the fast that eats the slow,” he said. I don’t care how big or muscular you are, if you’re not working your social game — if that’s not on point — you are going to go home.”
He continued, “Instead of pumping weights, talk to people and get to know them, ask them their story. People’s favourite topic is themselves. If they’re talking about themselves, you’re gonna make a friend, because they love the sound of their own voice. And people miss those cues.
“They had an opportunity to win a quarter of a million dollars. And they just blew it out the window because they were too busy worrying about how good they were going to look on TV.”
While Hayes didn’t direct his disdain for vanity at any one Big Brother housemate in particular, it certainly seems to be a sticking point for the real estate mogul and author.
“The world we live in is so fake,” he said. “Everything’s about an Instagram filter. And I’ll tell you what, if I see another woman on a dating website with eyes the size of footballs, or wearing bunny ears, I’m going to get a claw hammer and attack my face with it!
“I mean, why is everybody wanting to live the lie? The world we live in is one in which we’re all too scared to be ourselves.”
That rule of thumb certainly didn’t apply to Hayes, however, who said he would not change a thing about his time in the Big Brother house.
“I was myself,” he stated. “And I think Australia actually loved it. It’s like ‘Hey, there we go! There’s someone that’s real.’
“I’ve got faults, I cracked the s—ts, I swore, I went head-to-head and I ate with my mouth open… and I think my testicles are on TV as well! And I made mistakes, but guess what? I’m a f—king human being.”
Taking another vague(ish) dig at his fellow housemates again, he continued, “Sorry, I didn’t take a photo of myself in a private jet when I was next to one and put it on Instagram pretending I own a private jet. That’s not who I am.”
Despite clearly having a talent for entertaining and the kind of “tell-it-like-it-is” attitude that is synonymous with a successful reality TV personality, Hayes is adamant that Big Brother was his one and only foray into television.
“I’m probably won’t do any more TV,” he said. “I’m not after any fame like what other people are. So I think, you know, it’s my one and only shot at reality TV. I’ve enjoyed it. I loved every second — to be honest. But yeah, I don’t know. It’ll just be life as usual for me.”
Even though he (currently) has no plans to shoot his shot on another reality show (although he did joke that he was “miserably single” so Danny for Bachelor, perhaps?) Hayes did offer this advice to anyone who might be considering applying for Big Brother Australia 2022.
“Stand out. Make sure you fail every psychological test that they give you,” he suggested. “And the crazier you are, the better.”
