All the Stars Who Tied the Knot in 2022
Love was certainly in the air for celebrity couples this year! From Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck to Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker, there were a bevy of famous pairs who decided to take the plunge and tie the knot.
“We did know each other forever, and we had to live these separate paths and we did other beautiful things and we had these amazing children,” Lopez said of her rekindled romance with Affleck in a November interview with Zane Lowe. “Once we got whole enough and complete enough and loved ourselves enough and could stand on our own two feet really completely, as the universe would have it, we were brought into each other’s lives again. And it was a crack in the clouds and that song came through and it was like, ‘Boom, that’s it.’ And we were both very sure.”
Whether these celebrity couples held an intimate ceremony with their nearest and dearest like Jodie Sweetin and Mescal Wasilewski or opted for a lavish destination wedding with their families and friends like Tika Sumpter and Nicholas James, stars made their love official in numerous ways. As we get ready to close out the year, we’re taking a look back at all the celebrity weddings from 2022 – and those we’re just now finding out about.
Britney Spears and Sam Asghari
Spears and Asghari first met in October 2016 on the set of the singer’s “Slumber Party” music video, and nearly six years later, they got married in an intimate ceremony at her home in June 2022. The star-studded event brought out Paris Hilton, Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, and Madonna. “It’s just surreal,” Asghari said of their nuptials in an interview with “Good Morning America.” “It was way overdue for us, and we imagined this thing being a fairy tale, and it was. We wanted to just celebrate, and that’s what we did.”
Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker
Kardashian and Barker said “I do” not once but three times. After having a “practice wedding” in Las Vegas on April 4, the couple officially married during a courthouse ceremony in Southern California on May 15. Days later, Kardashian and Barker exchanged vows in front of their family and friends in Portofino, Italy, on May 22.
Kardashian and Barker were friends for years before their relationship turned romantic in 2020 and they got engaged a year later. “We both feel like timing is everything and the timing was perfect and I’m grateful for everything that led me to [him],” Kardashian shared on an episode of Dear Media’s “Not Skinny, Not Fat” podcast. “But we do say that. We’re like, ‘Oh, we could have had, you know, this many more years together and been doing all these things for so long.'”
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck
Lopez and Affleck’s love story is one for the books! After rekindling their romance 17 years later in 2021, the pair officially tied the knot in a small ceremony after obtaining a marriage license in Clark County, NV, on July 16. “We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” wrote Lopez in her newsletter, “On the JLo.” “Exactly what we wanted. Last night we flew to Vegas, stood in line for a license with four other couples, all making the same journey to the wedding capital of the world.”
A month later, Lopez and Affleck celebrated their nuptials with a star-studded ceremony in Riceboro, GA. While promoting her upcoming ninth album in an interview with Zane Lowe in November, Lopez discussed her rekindled romance with Affleck, saying, “We did know each other forever, and we had to live these separate paths and we did other beautiful things and we had these amazing children . . . Once we got whole enough and complete enough and loved ourselves enough and could stand on our own two feet really completely, as the universe would have it, we were brought into each other’s lives again.”
Lindsay Lohan and Bader Shammas
It’s unclear exactly when Lohan and Shammas first began dating, but in July, the actor surprised fans when she revealed on Instagram that they were married. “I am the luckiest woman in the world,” Lohan wrote. “You found me and knew that I wanted to find happiness and grace, all at the same time. I am stunned that you are my husband. My life and my everything. ❤️every woman should feel like this everyday ??.” The duo made their red carpet debut as a married couple at the New York premiere of Lohan’s movie “Falling For Christmas” in November.
Sarah Hyland and Wells Adams
After postponing their wedding a handful of times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hyland and Adams finally said “I do” at the Sunstone Winery in Santa Ynez, CA, in August. The couple’s wedding party included Ciara Robinson, who served as Hyland’s maid of honor, and bridesmaids Vanessa Hudgens and GG Magree. The women previously celebrated Hyland with a bachelorette party in Mexico in July. Hyland’s “Modern Family” costars were also in attendance, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson even officiated their wedding.
Hyland and Adams’s romance dates all the way back to 2017 when the actor first tweeted about her now-husband’s appearance on “Bachelor in Paradise.” Shortly after, Adams slipped into Hyland’s DMs, and the rest is history.
Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz Beckham
After three years of dating, Brooklyn and Nicola made things official when they tied the knot in a lavish ceremony at Peltz’s family mansion in Palm Beach, FL, in April. “The highlight of the whole wedding for me was seeing Nicola for the first time in that dress,” Brooklyn told Vogue. “It was the first time ever in my life when I felt like I couldn’t catch my breath.” The couple later celebrated their nuptials with a honeymoon in the South of France.
Lee Pace and Matthew Foley
Pace surprised fans in August when he revealed to GQ that he is married to Matthew Foley, an executive at Thom Browne. While he didn’t reveal the exact date they tied the knot, the actor did note that they’ve been together for several years.
Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews
The high-school sweethearts – who have been together since the 10th grade – got married in Maui, HI, in March. “Mr. & Mrs. Mahomes ?,” the couple announced in an Instagram post, featuring photos from their tropical ceremony and their daughter, Sterling Skye Mahomes. The couple also welcomed their second child, a son named Patrick ‘Bronze’ Lavon Mahomes III, in November.
Danielle Brooks and Dennis Gelin
The former “Orange Is the New Black” star kicked off the year by getting married to Gelin! On Jan. 13, Brooks announced the exciting news by sharing photos from their stunning wedding on Instagram, simply writing, “I’z married now! ?.” The couple got engaged on New Year’s Eve in 2020, and in November 2021, they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Freeya.
Jay Ellis and Nina Senicar
The longtime couple wed in Tuscany, Italy, after eight years together in July. Ellis and Senicar – who welcomed daughter Nora Grace in 2019 – were originally set to tie the knot on July 9, 2020, but delayed their nuptials twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a family loss. “We always knew we wanted to get married in Italy because going there was the first trip we ever took together,” Senicar told Vogue.
Taylor Lautner and Taylor Dome
Lautner and Dome have been going strong since 2018, and this past November, they made things official by getting married at Epoch Estate Wines near Paso Robles, CA. “The wedding couldn’t have been more perfect,” the actor told Vogue. “I could’ve been anywhere marrying my best friend and the love of my life but the setting of the ceremony definitely made the whole thing feel surreal. The sunset over the mountains exactly when we said our ‘I dos’ made it feel like a dream.”
Da Brat and Jesseca Dupart
The longtime pair officially tied the knot on Feb. 2 in an over-the-top, fairy tale-inspired wedding at the Horse Mansion in Fairburn, GA. “Everything about her made me want her to be mine forever,” the rapper (née Shawntae Harris) told People. “And I felt like I knew it not much longer than from the day we met.” The affair brought out a handful of stars, including groomsmen Jermaine Dupri, Damon Dupart Sr., and LisaRaye McCoy, who served as a bridesmaid.
Alexandra Daddario and Andrew Form
After getting engaged in August 2021, the actor and producer wed in New Orleans this past June, Vogue confirmed. “We said vows, cried, and Andrew’s children were his groomsmen and ring bearers,” Daddario told the publication. “We wanted to keep the ceremony itself short so people could have a dose of love and then get back to the music and catching up.”
Billie Lourd and Austen Rydell
The pair, who first dated when they were younger before reconciling in 2017, tied the knot in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on March 12. Six months later, Lourd revealed that they are expecting their second child at the world premiere of her movie “Ticket to Paradise.” The couple are already parents to a son named Kingston, whom they welcomed in September 2020.
Rita Ora and Taika Waititi
While Ora and Waititi prefer to keep their romance out of the spotlight, it was reported in August that the couple quietly wed after they were both spotted wearing gold bands on their ring fingers. Ora and Waititi were first linked together in April 2021, however, they have yet to officially confirm the marriage rumors themselves.
Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons
Dunst and Plemons – who first met on the set of “Fargo” in 2015 and began dating a year later – exchanged “I dos” in July. A rep for Dunst confirmed the news to Page Six, saying, “I can just confirm they got married. No other details will be given.”
Earlier in February, Dunst told the Los Angeles Times, “We call each other husband and wife. But we have to get married at this point. It’s ridiculous. We just haven’t planned a wedding.” The couple have two kids together, Ennis and James.
Josh Duhamel and Audra Mari
Duhamel and Mari began dating in 2019, and three years later, they wed in a ceremony in Fargo, ND, in September. “We knew we wanted to get married in Fargo,” Mari told Vogue. “It was the most important thing for us. Not only is it home to us, but it was so convenient for everyone we love to get to. I guess the romantic in me always feels like we’re just two small-town kids from North Dakota who found each other in Los Angeles. But we will always always be home, no matter where we are in the world.”
Jon Batiste and Suleika Jaouad
The Grammy winner revealed that he quietly tied the knot with his longtime love in February during a “CBS Sunday Morning” interview that aired on April 3. The pair – who first met at band camp years ago as teenagers – exchanged “I dos” after eight years together and just before Jaouad received a bone marrow transplant as part of treatment for her second leukemia diagnosis.
“We have known that we wanted to get married, I think, from the first week that we started dating,” Jaouad said, adding Batiste had been planning to propose for months. “He said to me, ‘I just want to be very clear, I’m not proposing to you because of this diagnosis. It’s taken me a year to design your ring. . . . What I do want you to know is that this diagnosis doesn’t change anything. It just makes it all the clearer to me that I want to commit to this and for us to be together,'” she recalled. “But once we realized we had this tiny window before the bone marrow transplant, we decided to go for it.”
Jodie Sweetin and Mescal Wasilewski
The former “Full House” star tied the knot with her boyfriend of five years in a small backyard ceremony in Malibu, CA, in July. “I know I have the right partner for the rest of whatever life brings me,” Sweetin told People. “And I couldn’t be more grateful.” The couple was joined by Sweetin’s two daughters, Zoie and Beatrix, as well as her “Full House” costars John Stamos, Candace Cameron Bure, and Andrea Barber.
Jonathan Bennett and Jaymes Vaughan
The “Mean Girls” actor tied the knot with the “Celebrity Page” host after five years of dating at the Unico Hotel Riviera Maya in Mexico on March 19. “When you’re part of the LGBTQ+ fam, not everything in the wedding space is for you yet,” Vaughan told People. “The whole purpose of our wedding is to come together and join the two of us together, join our families together and start a new family.”
“And all that, as we were going through this process, we realized that our wedding is also more than just about us,” Bennett added. “It’s about the entire community.”
Sophia Bush and Grant Hughes
On June 11, Bush and Hughes tied the knot in Tulsa, OK, nearly one year after getting engaged in Lake Como, Italy. “I have truly never felt so much positivity at once, so much clarity,” Bush told Vogue of the wedding ceremony. “As a person who suffers anxiety, it felt incredible to experience a sheer absence of it. I couldn’t stop smiling.”
Tika Sumpter and Nicholas James
The actors wed in a gorgeous ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on May 14, Brides confirmed. “We’re excited to be together and continue the journey,” Sumpter told the outlet of marrying Nick, with whom she shares 6-year-old daughter Ella with. “We both walked down the aisle with clear eyes, knowing that the wedding wasn’t just for the party. It was really for us.”
John Cena and Shay Shariatzadeh
After initially tying the knot in October 2020, Cena and Shariatzadeh said “I do” for a second time in Vancouver this past July. The couple first met in 2019 while the actor was filming “Playing With Fire” in Vancouver, so the city likely holds a special place in their hearts.
Jordana Brewster and Mason Morfit
Following their engagement in September 2021, the actor and businessman got married in a Redondo Beach, CA, ceremony in September. The fete brought out Brewster’s “Fast and Furious” family, including Vin Diesel, Ludacris, and the late Paul Walker’s daughter, Meadow Walker.
Tatiana Maslany and Brendan Hines
Maslany and Hines first sparked dating rumors in July 2021, and a year later, the “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” star revealed that they secretly got married during an August appearance on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.” “My actual big news: I got married,” Maslany told the crowd, jokingly adding, “Nobody knows, so don’t tell anyone.”
Maslany said that they decided to keep their wedding news under wraps because “there are certain things you want to keep private.” While she didn’t reveal any specific details about the ceremony or when they tied the knot, she told Stephen Colbert that they kept it small due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “It went very well. It was a very chill day,” she said, also adding that she and Hines’s dog Earl served as the ring bearer.
Nikki Bella and Artem Chigvintsev
The couple – who first began dating in December 2018 – wed in Paris in August. They announced the exciting milestone on Instagram by sharing photos from their wedding, writing, “We said I DO, can’t wait to share the entire journey with you all when our four-part special event, ‘Nikki Bella Says I Do,’ premieres on @eentertainment. #NikkiBellaSaysIDo.”
