“I Loved Every Moment”: Brooke Blurton on Being The Bachelorette and Love at First Sight
Ever since Brooke Blurton was announced as the next Bachelorette, we’ve been counting down the days till we could see her on our screens for the third time. Being the first Indigenous and pansexual woman to front the franchise, Brooke is making history, making this season more iconic than ever.
We were first introduced to the 26-year-old during Honey Badger’s season of The Bachelor, but after she was unsuccessful in love, she gave a crack at Bachelor In Paradise.
They say third time’s the charm, which is why Brooke is back and with a mansion full of men and women vying for her love, it’s almost guaranteed that she’ll walk away with the love of her life.
We’ve seen trailers and small snippets of the upcoming season, which premieres on October 20, and in true bachie fashion, there’s a ton of drama accompanying the extravagant dates and romantic moments.
POPSUGAR Australia had the chance to speak to Brooke herself, and we found out everything there is to know about her time on the show.
POPSUGAR Australia: What made you sign up to be The Bachelorette?
Brooke Blurton: That’s such a tricky one, I don’t really know how to answer it. I feel like it was always a little bit of a consideration, if it were to happen, I would be really open to it. And I guess when the opportunity came, I felt like it was the perfect time in my life to do it.
PS: How does it feel being the first Indigenous and pansexual Bachelorette?
BB: I try not to feel the pressure because I’m just Brooke, and I’m just going to be me. I feel pressure to represent both communities, and that I represent them with integrity and a lot of pride. So I feel pressured to do that, but I feel like I’m just Brooke at the end of the day.
PS: How was the experience of filming? Was it what you expected?
BB: I try not to go in with a lot of expectations with things, I think I did that with The Bachelor and even Bachelor In Paradise. I obviously didn’t get too disappointed with the outcome of those. I think this time around I was a little bit more determined and didn’t put too much pressure on myself. I just really wanted to throw myself and lean into the experience. I thoroughly enjoyed it, I loved every moment. Even though I couldn’t have my family there, production became my family. Overall it was amazing.
PS: Were there any men or women in the mansion that you felt an immediate connection with that were different from the type of people you usually go for?
BB: I think every participant is so unique and has such a different quality about them that I liked. For me, obviously, it’s about a bigger package and I’m looking for my person. But everyone had the most amazing qualities and qualities that I definitely look for in a person.
PS: What has been your longest relationship to date?
BB: My high school romance was probably four years? Young love!
PS: Do you believe in love at first sight?
BB: Absolutely.
PS: What qualities do you value most in a partner?
BB: I think overall someone who is truly genuine and authentic to themselves. I think that’s a really attractive trait to have and someone who doesn’t try to be someone they’re not.
PS: Through this experience, was there a quality that you discovered that you want in a partner that you’d never considered before?
BB: Not so much I hadn’t considered before, but more like something I’m not used to. I think, some people, you can kind of say things out loud of what you’re looking for, but until it really happens, you’re like “oh wow, how do I take this?” So I think a lot of people surprised me with different things that I wasn’t so used to having, and maybe I didn’t look at before.
PS: How long did it take to get used to making out with people when there are cameras everywhere?
BB: I guess I’ve had twice over experience on The Bachelor and Bachelor In Paradise. So I kind of took to it very quickly.
