Brooke Blurton Opens Up About Having an Abortion Following Roe v Wade Ruling
Trigger warning: This story discusses abortion.
Brooke Blurton has opened up about having an abortion after the US Supreme Court ruled to overturn Roe v Wade. Sharing Abbie Chatfield’s post about her own abortion on her Instagram story, Blurton highlighted the importance of women banding together during this difficult time.
“Women can come together. We need [to],” she penned. “After going through my own experience of an abortion only very little time ago. I am so lucky (if that’s the word to use) to have choice [sic].”
She then deliberated over why “men have a choice over our bodies”.
The 27-year-old was empathetic towards those affected by the ruling, and told her followers that “we need to be there for [each other] more than ever”.
She also addressed her post-Bachelorette feud with Chatfield, commending her for her “vulnerability” despite their differences.
“I’ve always admired Abbie for the topics she speaks on,” she confessed. “Her honesty, particularly around abortion was one that I thought she showed so much strength in. [sic].”
Brooke continued: “Yes the media has [played] into our once was ‘friendship’ but it takes a very strong human to speak up about this and disputes aside. I have always saw past that and admire the vulnerability Abbie has.”
Blurton and Chatfield butted heads during last year’s season of The Bachelorette. The two were good friends, but things took a turn after Chatfield announced her relationship with Blurton’s third runner-up, Konrad Bien-Stephen while the show was still airing.
