Eyelash extensions are a great way to punch up your lashes without the need for daily eye-makeup application. With extensions, you can just wake up and go – sans mascara or a set of falsies. Still, like with most beauty treatments, lash extensions aren’t one size fits all; there are various styles that you can choose from depending on what you’re looking for. Hybrid lashes, for example, are one of the most popular and are perfect for those who want the best of both worlds.
As the name suggests, a hybrid eyelash set combines both classic and volume fans. “Hybrids are a nice middle road between the drama of volume lashes and the minimalism of classic lashes,” Kimber Jaynes, celebrity lash expert and founder of Borboleta, told POPSUGAR. The result is a look that’s “less tailored and more mixed.”
For anyone unfamiliar, classic lash sets involve applying an extension onto each natural lash one by one. “Hybrid sets include classic lashes but add volume fans (a fan made from multiple lashes) for a plush impact,” Jaynes said.
The post-treatment aftercare for hybrid eyelashes is the same as classic and volume fans. You need to be careful getting them wet, shouldn’t wear mascara, and need to properly dry them after you shower. “Using a lash-safe makeup remover like the Breakdown Oil-Free Makeup Remover (US$20) will make sure longwear makeup dissolves easily without damaging lashes,” Jaynes said. “A lash cleanser is also key for washing away debris, oils, and any unseen residue.” Just be sure to be gentle when cleaning your lashes – don’t rub or tug on them.
Hybrid lashes can last anywhere from two to three weeks with fills required to keep them looking fresh. Jaynes noted it’s also helpful to use a lash serum to hydrate your natural lashes while wearing extensions and in between sets. Try the RevitaLash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner US($98), Borboleta Lash Serum (US$65), or Obagi Nu-Cil Eyelash Enhancing Serum (US$120).
