With more conscious consumers choosing to spend their money on products that are sustainable, ethically sourced and cruelty-free, it’s little surprise that more brands are making an effort to create formulations that tick all of these boxes. The Body Shop is the latest company to announce that it will be transitioning all of its products to vegan formulas by December 2023.

From its body products to skincare and cosmetics, come 2023, The Body Shop will be joining a long list of beauty brands that are vegan. According to Vegan Australia, to be considered truly vegan, products must be free from animal products, not tested on animals and have no animal products used in the production process.

If you’re becoming more aware of the products you’re putting on your body and want to include more vegan formulations in your beauty routine, look no further than this list of vegan and cruelty-free brands. From skincare, nail polish, body products and makeup, these are the vegan brands we love.

MECCA MAX

In August 2018, on the first birthday of the brand, MECCA MAX announced that its line was now fully vegan. The entire MECCA MAX line is vegan and cruelty-free, so you know you’re making an ethical decision when you shop the range of affordable and high-quality makeup.

Inika Organic

Created in Sydney in 2006, Inika Organic creates makeup and skincare products that are organic, natural, vegan and cruelty-free while also being ethically sourced and super effective. The brand has rigorous testing for all of its products, which includes cleansers, serums, lip products and eye makeup.

Alkira Skincare

Inspired by the Australian landscape, Alkira Skincare products are rich in Australian botanicals including Kakadu Plum, Kangaroo Paw and Davidson Plum. Created by the brother and sister duo behind beauty brand Sukin, Alison Goodger and Simon O’Connor, the pair has created a line that is ethical, cruelty-free, vegan and carbon neutral. Kester Black

Inspired by her childhood in the hinterland of New Zealand, Anna Ross created Kester Black — a lipstick and nail polish brand that is vegan and cruelty-free as well as carbon neutral and has a B Corp certification which means the brand meets the highest ethical business standards.

KVD Vegan Beauty

KVD Vegan Beauty says it right in the name. The makeup line, including the famed Tattoo Liner Liquid Eyeliner, was reformulated to be 100% vegan in 2016 without sacrificing the quality the brand is known for. Swap over your makeup products for cruelty-free options with KVD Vegan Beauty.

Skyn Iceland

Created in Iceland to target the damaging effects of stress on the skin, Skyn Iceland uses potent ingredients found in the Scandinavian Peninsula. The brand creates vegan, cruelty-free and natural skincare products that are formulated to provide relief to stressed skin including irritation, redness, premature ageing and sensitivity.

Bohemian Skin

This local beauty brand prides itself on its 100% vegan and natural products that are made in Australia. Originally formulated with pregnant women in mind, the Bohemian Skin line is gentle enough for you to use through every life stage, including pregnancy. Bohemian Skin’s AHA Enzyme Exfoliant is particularly good thanks to the addition of fruit enzymes and lactic acid, which dissolves dead skin cells and balances oil production.

Andalou Naturals

Known for its range of high-performance natural, organic and cruelty-free skincare, Andalou Naturals has a large selection of vegan goodies. 100 percent of the range is vegetarian, and over 90 of these products are vegan — only a small handful aren’t due to the addition of beeswax, manuka honey or lactobacillus.

Biossance

With an emphasis on sustainability, Biossance doesn’t compromise on quality when it comes to creating natural skincare products that are effective. Biossance creates its products without harming the environment or animals and everything in the Biossance range is vegan, with the company using a sugarcane-derived version of squalene — an ingredient that is typically harvested from shark livers.

Milk Makeup

With a commitment to sustainability and clean ingredients, the Milk Makeup range is 100 percent vegan, cruelty-free and is Leaping Bunny certified. The brand is also working towards new product formulations that will be over 80 percent natural, with all ingredients ethically and responsibly sourced.

Bangn Body

For the best vegan body products, you can’t go past Bangn Body. Formulated with Australian native extracts and locally sourced botanical ingredients, the entire Bangn Body range is 100% vegan as well as natural, organic and cruelty-free, making it particularly perfect for even the most sensitive skin. The whole range is great but we can’t go past the original Firming Lotion, which works to reduce the appearance of redness and bumps while increasing skin circulation and collagen production.

MERE Skincare

This no-fuss, high-performance brand uses natural formulations and ingredients that your skin recognises as its own. The MERE Skincare range is 100% vegan and includes ingredients like argan oil, prickly pear oil and sweet almond oil to nourish your skin. The Elemental 360 Cell-Active Face Cream delivers deep hydration and works to even skin tone and it’ll leave your skin looking younger by reducing the signs and lines.
