The Nail Trend You’re Seeing All Over Instagram Is Both Chic and Nostalgically Comforting
If you’re a regular scroller on Instagram, chances are you’ve seen the nail art trend that is taking over the app. Nail stickers are back and better than ever. Yep, those little decals that you used to cover your nails with as a kid are back in vogue.
Not only are these nail art stickers considered chic and fun, but they also serve us a delicious hit of nostalgia that is proving to be incredibly comforting at the moment. As someone in lockdown who hasn’t had a lot to look forward to, decorating my nails with stickers has been a real highlight.
Here are some of our favourite nail stickers created by Aussie brands.
Flowerbed Nails
Created by two Bondi-based creatives, Flowerbed Nails produces the ’90s inspired stickers that you’ve probably seen on Instagram. The first collection of Flowerbed Nails, called Launch Party ($15), was made in collaboration with AfterHours and features whimsical flowers, lightning bolts, chillies, cherries and smiley faces.
Mannequin Hands
Mannequin Hands, also known as Victoria Houllis, is a Sydney-based nail artist who creates quirky and cute nail designs. In fact, Houllis’s work has graced the nails of everyone from Dua Lipa and M.I.A, to local legends Flex Mami and Rowi Singh.
During lockdown, Mannequin Hands released the Made in Heaven Nail Decals ($18), which are designed and illustrated by Stephanie Tsimbourlas and feature the Mannequin Hands icons. This collection includes flowers, love hearts, balloons and stars.
Nails By Nature
Etsy is a great place to find nail decals, with Etsy seller Nails By Nature offering a sweet array of flora and fauna-themed stickers. The Brunswick-based creator has a number of sticker sheets to choose from, including giraffes, billy buttons, wattle and everyone’s favourite house plant, Monstera Nail Decals ($10).
Kester Black
Australian beauty brand Kester Black is known for its sustainably produced nail polish, lipstick and eyeliners, but have you seen its best-selling Staycation Nail Stickers ($28)? The limited-edition stickers include over 40 styles and feature happy designs like rainbows, strawberries and mushrooms.
While these stickers are currently sold out, Kester Black will be releasing another batch later this year. You can sign up to be notified when these will be available by entering your email address here.
