Karrueche Tran Shares the Sentimental Story Behind Her Cropped Pixie Cut

Karrueche Tran is ready for a fresh start. The “Bel-Air” star revealed on March 19 that her most recent haircut – a drastic pixie cut – is a tribute to her late father, DeVon Minters, who died suddenly in January. In photos posted on Instagram, Tran could be seen releasing her hair into the ocean with some of her father’s ashes. Tran’s decision to cut her hair after her father’s death was especially significant since he was a hairstylist.

“I feel like a weight has been lifted.”

“Life is really LIFING right now and it was time for me to let go of a lot of old energy,” she captioned the post, along with a dove emoji. “I’ve always wanted to cut my hair short short but never had the balls to do it,” she said. Tran turned to celebrity hairstylist Cesar Deleon Ramirez for her chop. “I feel like a weight has been lifted.. I feel so free and I honestly love it.. being able to release my hair in the ocean along w some of my dads ashes was magical.. a full circle moment as my dad was also a hairstylist lol.”

Tran also shared a glimpse at the first round of her hair appointment, before Ramirez snipped it down to an edgy pixie. “Cesar, thank you for being so gentle and patient with me.. I appreciate you so much,” she wrote. “Out with the old, in with the new.”

Touched by Tran’s words, Ramirez issued a reminder to hairstylists everywhere that hair holds a deeper meaning for every individual. The hairstylist shared photos of Tran’s new look on his Instagram Stories that same day, saying he felt “soo honored” to partake in the “transformative healing moment.” He added, “Hair is vessel which holds onto energy. Everyday I feel blessed to be the one to handles that energy for so many of my clients. Remember Stylist, what we do is so much deeper [than] hair, don’t ever take that for granted.”
