This Was the Year of the Met Gala Hair Transformation

The Met Gala 2023 has come and gone, but we’re not quite ready to stop talking about it just yet. On May 1, A-listers gathered on the steps of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art to show off their amazing beauty looks and fashion masterpieces for the theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” With everyone from Dua Lipa (as cochair, wearing a classic french manicure) to Doja Cat (dressed as a cat with full facial prosthetics) and Lil Nas X (pants-less, wearing only body paint) in attendance, it was undoubtedly going to be a good night. And yet, even we couldn’t have expected all of the major hair transformations that hit the red carpet. Between the haircut and hair color changes, many of the stars looked completely different.

In the color category, some celebrities donned silver-blond wigs as an ode to Lagerfeld, including Cara Delevingne in her short, choppy bob, Cardi B in her side bangs and lots of volume, and Jessica Chastain’s platinum-blond, straight hair. Meanwhile, Marion Cotillard overhauled her look with a pink bowl cut.

For cuts, Florence Pugh went big, having revealed a fresh buzz cut with a dramatic headpiece at the event. Micro bangs were also an unexpected stand-out of the night with everyone from Emily Ratajkowski, Lily James, Olivia Rodrigo, and Lizzo wearing the itty-bitty bangs style.
