I’ve been straightening my hair since I was 15 years old. As someone with extremely thick, unruly, wavy, and fluffy hair, I rarely wear my natural hair as is. Scratch that — I never wear my hair in its natural state as it always looks a little unkempt. I’m also a blonde (via bleach) so it’s safe to say that my hair goes through a lot with regular colouring and heat styling.
Previously, I’ve opted for the hottest setting on my hair straightener when styling my hair. Given how thick my hair is, I’ve always needed the extra heat to make sure I can properly achieve a straight style. Well, I have officially broken up with my old device in favour of the Dyson Corrale straightener ($699) for the sake of my hair’s health.
I was lucky to give the Dyson Corrale a whirl over several months and was interested to see how it performed compared to brands I have used since I was a teenager.

The Dyson Corrale straightener has three precise heat settings — 165°C, 185°C, and 210°C — and is controlled by a thermal system that is intelligent enough to make sure it doesn’t exceed this setting. Basically, you won’t fry your precious hair!
Intrigued by the heat options, I opted to use the 185°C heat option on my first use to see how it would handle my hair. Not only did this middle heat setting straighten my hair quicker than my previous straightener (which was much, much hotter) but my hair felt smooth and shiny and looked super straight. I loved this heat option so much that I’ve stayed loyal to 185°C and haven’t needed to use the hottest setting to achieve a sleek style.
The flexing copper plates within the Dyson Corrale also shape around your hair, which means strands won’t slip out when straightening large chunks of your hair. This has allowed me to straighten my hair far quicker, which is better for the long-term health of my locks, while also shaving precious minutes off of my styling routine.
In fact, with my old straightener, the styling was a 15-to-20-minute process but I’ve got it down to just over 10 minutes with the Dyson Corrale straightener.
This has done wonders for my time management in the morning, which is when I always seem to be running late. The Dyson Corrale hair straightener is also cordless and the battery life of the in-built battery pack gives me 30 minutes of styling sans cord, so I’m able to style my whole head without even coming close to draining the battery.

For those times when I do forget to charge the straightener (it happens to the best of us), I simply use it with the Dyson Corrale plugged into the charging cable.
The flexibility and cordless design have also allowed me to take the Dyson Corrale with me when I’m out and about. I’ve thrown it into my bag a number of times and taken it to work to touch up my hair before heading out to events and slipped it into my overnight bag for weekends away. The lack of cord also just makes using the device way easier than traditional hair straighteners — I’ve never once got caught in the cord.
As a previous devotee of other straightener brands, I have well and truly been won over by the Dyson Corrale. The ease of use thanks to its cordless nature, coupled with how healthy my hair has looked and felt since using the straightener, means I won’t be going back to my previous device. And, I’ve got my styling routine down to a fine art and have saved many minutes in the process, which, on a weekday morning, is most definitely a win.
